I'm gonna have to recommend a ProVari as well, it's actually built to aerospace spec, and built out of space grade materials.
I've dropped mine a few times, I even bounced it off some rocks while out hiking, walked away with a missing window and a flawlessly functioning mod. No dents, some scratches though.
You could get one of these in either full size or mini, and it's completely subdued, even the led and the screen, so you should be able to use it in the field.
No threads to get messed up. Only threading is the 510 connector.
Self-contained liquids supply. No external glass anything to be broken.
Liquid feed. Gets you the RDA experience with none of the hassle. It's a single handed device.
Your total kit would consist of:
A Reo
A Reomizer bottom feed atty. The RM2 is the most basic, single coil, and will work great with some damn ugly coil builds.
As many or as few 18650 batteries as you would want to carry.
Charger would be needed.
A replacement battery spring for insurance. If you dead short it the battery spring collapses.
Coil and wicking to rebuild.
Your liquids of choice. The Reo uses a 6 ml feed bottle. Extra bottles with caps can be purchased.
That's it for bulletproof vaping. One of the very few PV's going where I would feel comfortable without needing to have a backup. It's pretty much leak proof unless you feed it and don't get a chance to vape what you just fed to the atty, which ain't much. Has been known to be run over with a car and the thing just keeps working. Since it's machined out of a block of aluminum it's really hard to kill the thing.
How about a hammer clone (expendable) spray it flat black (for a cool guy SOF look) with a likewise painted all metal R91%. Throw it in a waterproof bag and carry some extra 13650 batts...
Don't know what you've been reading, but its actually the exact opposite.
Ive seen many horror stories involving provari's that only a mech should survive (like 3 story drops onto concrete, complete submerging in dishwater etc) and yet the provari keeps on ticking.
Just to clarify, i neither own nor am a provari fanboy, but they're known for their ridiculously good reliability/durability for a reason.
My mvp made it through afghanistan, being able to charge my music off of it was super nice being out on mission for days at a time. It's not the most high end, but it's super durable and a portable battery, which was gold to me.
Get some 18650s, and two cheaper tube-style non-magnetic mech clones for a parts swap when one breaks (or for when you lose one - two is one and one is none). An atty choice might be a GP Spheroid (solid, no leaks, all metal) and a RDA clone. 50' of A1 and some cotton and you are done.
Poldiak and kayfun lite (with metal tank) survived 2 submarine deployments and thats a lot of drops, bangs, scrapes and me using it as a hammer on some gear. At the end of my second deployment I lost it and thought I would never see it again. It was found in a bilge covered in hydraulic fluid , after a thorough cleaning and a fresh build - worked like a champ, I still use it from time to time.
MVP 2.0 is another good recommendation for sure. I own two ProVari's and an MVP. In fact, the only reason I made the jump to ProVari was because my MVP fell over and stripped the threads from a tank, rendering it unusable.
I've heard awesome things about the REO as well, but don't own one so can't speak from personal experience.
REO is an excellent choice. Provari is as well. I have dropped my kayfuns many times and have yet to damage one. Have you considered a box mod? I got a knock off box mod very reasonably priced and it is all metal.
Got my AR mod a few days ago. It's a tank. Dropped it down a dry cement aqueduct and not a scratch. Heavy and sturdy too. Holds the saying of "when out of ammo, everything becomes a weapon" very true. Plus the whole modeled after M4/M16 handguards is a nice touch.
