The chrome finish is a cool thought, but the fingerprints this thing picks up is relentless. Having to clean it every time you pick it up sucks big time! So I picked up some plastidip and painters tape for the parts I covered. All I covered was the top portion with the connection and I gave it a spray. I didn't bother taking the unit apart because I didn't think the spray could get in there, and I was right. Plus the fact that this stuff coagulates quick would make it even less likely. When it dries it peels off easypeasy. Did five coats and I waited 4hours between coats. On the first coat after spraying it, the visibility of the unit was about 50%. Don't try to cover it on the first run. You gotta do it gradually. 2nd run was about 90%; 3rd run, the unit should be the color you intend it to be. 4th run and onwards your just helping to strengthen the plastidip and longevity.
I just searched plastidip on YouTube and put the concepts the car modifiers used towards my mini lambo. The only difference I made was the 4hr dry time between coats. They recommend 15 min, I tried it and I thought to myself that I bet it would look better if I waited 4hrs like the can suggests. Right again! Go for it if you wanna change the look of your unit. Of course take caution because I only have tried it with the mini lambo. Use your judgement and disassemble it or whatever clever idea you have to keep the unit electronics from being exposed.
