I treat them like a carto, I wouldn't dry burn a BVC, more chance of singeing the wicking material by overheating.
The only cleaning Ive been even 50% successful doing is Rinse / soak in PGA, pour out soak again, allow to evaporate/ dry, then prime as new.
If you did dry burn one then I'd try priming it, only thing that can happen is flooding.
While it is apart make sure all the gaskets are in place and in perfect shape, no nicks.
