Mini Protank coil assembly

I've just disassembled my mini protank in order to take one of the wicks out, because it was giving a REALLY bad taste, and I read that taking one out could help (it's helped a bit, but the taste is still slighty there - any suggestions on this are much appreciated!).

But now I'm a bit confused. There seem to be 4 wicks - 3 solid ones (including the one wrapped in the coil), plus three or four little strings bundled together. Is this normal?

Also, I'm not sure how to reassemble the rubber bands - there is a thick one and a thin one (plus the thin one on the bottom that I didn't remove). I know that the thick one sits just above the wicks, but where does the thin one go?

I dont know about the mini , but i have its big brother , the number of wicks varies i had one that came with like 6 tiny ones pressed really hard into it , once I removed some it worked alot better .
YOU TUBE is your friend on rebuilding stuff , type in protank mini and you should find some stuff on its build
