Hi all! I am looking to order my first carto tank. I would like to mix and match and build my own tank, but I'm looking for a little guidance in ordering my parts in order to ensure that they will all be compatible with each other.

I suppose my main question is, are all carto tank tubes universal in diameter? My assumption would be no. If so, then my next question would be how to I know what size caps/tubes to order to make sure they will fit properly. For example, I found these caps that I really like: Beveled "Slant" T-316 Stainless Steel End Caps - Vaperfexion but they do not say anything about size in the description. So let say I wanted to mix these caps with a pyrex/glass tube ordered from a different vendor, how would I know which size tube to order to ensure the caps fit, and fit properly (in terms of diameter, i know length obv doesnt matter in terms of caps)?

Any advice would be great! Thanks everyone!

What you are planning is uncommon, but not entirely unheard of. There are no standards or uniformity in tube and endcap diameter. Just about every manufacturer has their own dimensions. The only measurement that remains a constant is the size of the hole in the endcaps for the cartomizer.

Concerning your statement, " i know length obv doesnt matter in terms of caps", it does matter in terms that the tube must be one of two lengths to fit one of two cartomizer lengths.

I have been on a "quest for pyrex tanks" since I had a freshly filled clearomizer literally melt in my hands immediately after filling it with a well-known lady-baker's strawberry-lemonade e-juice. In fact I have been a major contributor to a thread devoted to the title here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/314551-quest-glass-pyrex-tanks.html

I made a decision to avoid further purchases of any vape gear that utilized the plastic polycarbonate because of its inability to withstand contact with certain flavors, most notably cinnamon and citrus flavors. Here is a useful link to a thread with a current list of flavors that can crack/melt polycarbonate: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/219179-lets-make-list-juices-flavors-crack-tanks-ce2s-clearos-29.html#post7203876

It totally amazes me that manufacturers can charge up to $70 or more for a tank yet put a cheap polycarbonate tube on it. Luckily, a few innovative pyrex tank manufactures have sprung up to answer the call. One of the most ambitious manufacturers is someone who goes by the name OCD, who makes the tanks for IBTanked. He makes high quality pyrex tanks at a very affordable cost. I just today did a full review of his tanks here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tank-reviews/349222-ibtanked-pyrex-glass-tanks.html

I would think your best bet would be to contact Mr. OCD himself. There is contact information on the website. Send him a link to the endcaps that you are interested in, and see what he says. I know that he has been collecting different pyrex tube stock to do just what you are asking. The link to IBTanked is at the end of my above review.

I have been relatively successful myself in finding some pyrex tubes to fit some endcaps of some special tanks that I own. I discovered that a clear Phiniac tube will match perfectly with the endcaps for the Bella Elegance tanks from Hoosier Vapes. This is that tank:

I also was searching for a pyrex tube to fit my Vaperfexion Pro-V tank. An ECF buddy of mine, Chohan, chose to gamble on my suspicion that the pyrex tubes made by Siam Mods and sold by Clouds of Vapor would fit that tank. They weren't a perfect match, but it was a satisfactory match. This is his tank:

Good luck with finding a glass tube for those SS caps. They sure are pretty. I actually considered trying to find a tube for those very same caps myself. I assume you are aware that the top and bottom caps for that potential tank setup are different? The beveled cap is the top cap. They sell a separate bottom cap (in whatever finish you choose for the top cap) that has the machined cutouts for airflow when connected to the APV.

Please keep us informed on how your quest progresses. :thumb:

^^ very inofrmative, thank you very much, you answered all my questions. yet now i have new ones :D.

1. Those caps i linked you, as im sure you noticed, from vaperfexion as well, so would it be safe to assume they would be the same size as the pro-v caps?

2. Where did you get the pyrex tube to fit your pro-v caps? what do you mean by it was a "satisfactory, but not perfect" fit?

3. in you tank experiences, what cartos have you found to be most flavorful? I've been using these GotVapes PHOENiX™ REBORN Bottom Coil XL 1.5ml Carto 2.4-2.6ohms [gv-PHOENIX-XL-2.4-510] - $11.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more and I found the flavor to be shockingly satisfying, and I'd love to try and match it as much as possible (without sacrificing performance of course #utopianideas).

**on a side-note, i WHOLE-HEARTEDLY agree with you on the cost of these tanks. I as well was looking at the SS Pro-v tank but i could not bring myself to spend $65 on a couple stainless steel caps and plastic tubing. it just seems so damn outrageous to me.

(1) Concerning the question about being safe to assume that the caps in question are the same size as the pro-v caps? I honestly don't know. It does appear that Vaperfexion names all of their tanks with the "VPX" prefix designation, including the Pro-V. And they offer only one polycarbonate tube replacement on their website. Logic would dictate that the caps would all be the same diameter to fit the only replacement tube that they sell. But who knows? An email request for authentication of this could probably be obtained from Vaporfexion.

(2) This is where Chohan and I got the pyrex tube replacements for our Pro-V tanks: Siam Mods - Glass Tanks

Cohan chose the green standard size, I chose the blue XL size. It might be to your benefit to read each of our comments to determine if this project is for you. You can read each of our comments on the fit in the links below:

Chohan's experience: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/314551-quest-glass-pyrex-tanks-27.html#post7386955

My experience: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/314551-quest-glass-pyrex-tanks-29.html#post7477939

Long story short, we both went ahead and assembled our tanks with a carto and drip tip. I believe that the combination of the o-rings swelling when in contact with e-juice, plus the added stability of the carto and drip tip on the assembled tank, creates a snug enough fit to make this tank more than serviceable. I'm not sure I am confident enough about the overall fit that I would leave home with the tank on my mod just yet, I've only been using it at home and I've not had any leaking issues. I made sure to use a drip tip that fits tightly on the carto just to be a little safer.

On a side note, the blue tube from COV is VERY dark blue, almost black. It's nearly impossible to see your juice unless a very bright light is behind the tank. Just a heads up.

(3) I have been using prepunched Smoktek 2.0 ohm (on the Silver Bullet and BB) and 3.0 ohm (on the Provari) single coil cartos 45mm length and been quite happy with them.

A couple of weeks ago I finally got some Ikenvape Punched! Platinum in Mega size (45mm) which are 2.5 ohm, and I think I have found a new favorite. A couple of my ECF buddies had been singing their praises and I was never able to get any to try because they are only sold by Ikenvape, and the Platinums were always out of stock. I got a heads up that they had finally come in so I grabbed a bunch.

The direct links to the vendor websites are in my blog under my avatar.

I have not tried the Phoenix Reborn cartos, but I have heard positive comments about them on ECF. I do like to use ce3s to test flavors with, as I don't drip, so I may need to pick a couple of those up to try.

If you are interested, you can view my tanks and setup in the link in my sig below.

I hope this information has been helpful. I'd talk with OCD @ IBTanked first. I know another Pro-V owner was inquiring OCD about getting a pyrex tube replacement from him this week. I have not heard what his response was.
