Hi all,
Was wondering if there are any mixing experts on the forum.. I started creating my own liquids since a bit over a month, but still not sure if I am doing everything right, as I am not satisfied with the results.
I currently have 10 x 100ml bottles of:
Blueberry - Strawberry - Hazelnut - Caramel - Turkish tobacco - Coconut - Menthol - French Vanilla - Key Lime -Cheesecake.
I get the base already mixed 60/40 with 3mg nicotine and mix each flavor separately using 10% aroma, then start mixing the flavors in the tank every time i fill it until i find the suitable flavor mix.

I'm by no means an expert, but I've managed to make a few vape sauces I enjoy. What about the flavors you've made so far are unsatisfactory?

When I started, I did a lot of single flavor mixes and found that many had good flavor but had a super harsh throat hit, regardless of pg/vg mix or device settings. Since getting CAP vanilla custard v2, I've added it to many mixes and found that below 3% it adds a bit of sweetness and a lot of smoothness to my mixes. I also started with a high pg to vg ratio, and found that mixing at 50/50 or 60/40 vg/pg was the best way to get good flavor and a satisfying vape.

Thank you NotinaGang! Well, i created once a satisfactory juice mix between RY4 Double Tobacco + Caramel and Hazelnut.. wasn't bad but still not perfect.
last week I began a different approach by creating single Flavors 100Ml bottles and try mixing them in the tank overtime I refill with different ratios and flavors.. I seem to lack a good vape smell and sweetness is sort of mellow.. Taste is not intense either.. so need to figure out what i am doing wrong.
I did a menthol last week using 10% flavor and hell, that was tooooo much .. I think menthol is quite strong and 5% if not 3% is enough...

I'm not sure of what to do to get a good smell out of my juice, after a good 15 day steep my mixing room and juices start smelling like a bakery. As far as sweetness goes, adding a little TFA sweetener can really help. Another little trick I've been trying lately is adding about 0'5% ethyl malitol. It's a really interesting compound that can have far reaching effects on many flavors; as such it finds its way into 3/5 of my mixes. On the note of menthol, I've found that I like my flavors to have a distinct mint flavor from a spearmint or wintergreen instead of straight menthol. They taste a little more organic, and can add a nice leafy after note to flavors like blackberry and huckleberry. That RY4/caramel/hazelnut sounds delicious though, I'll have to try that! Cheers!

I will have to check if I can get TFA sweetener or Ethyl Malitol from the shop I go to. But i would really like if the sweetness is sort of natural to the flavor I am using as well as the smell.. Let me know if you ever mix that recipe I mentioned and if you like it

Welcome aboard, @oneharleyrocker (and @NotInAGang :) )

One thing I've found with mixing is that (at least with the TFA flavors I use) that vanillas, creams, sweeteners etc. help round out a mix. I might do something that's fruit-based, but I'll drop a touch of vanilla swirl or sweet cream or bavarian cream (or a bit of each). I don't notice the vanilla, but it smooths the "edges" of the flavors.

Blueberry/Strawberry is a pretty classic combination. Those, with a bit of French Vanilla and even the Cheesecake sound like a lovely combination. Key Lime (shouldn't need a lot) and a bit of coconut (along with vanilla and cheesecake) sounds tasty too. I picked up some stevia from the grocery, and I use that as my sweetener. Only need a small percentage of the mix (1-2%, generally) and I find that helps some of the flavors pop.

Sir2 offered up some good links - DannyV45 and Hoosier have some excellent information for new DIYers. Recipes are excellent guidelines - however, each person has his or her own taste preferences. When I'm trying to come up with a new combination, I look at recipes to get an idea of proportions. Then, I just think about what sounds good to *ME* and start running. I'll mix very small batches (no more than 10 mL) to try something out. If it's good, then I'll make a larger batch. If it sux, then, I might try adding something to complement the mix or I may just pitch it. Usually don't throw nic in my sample batches until I know I have a good one.

Good Luck! DIY can absolutely ROCK when you start getting a few mixes that work for you. Don't hesitate to go from a few recipes to start with - it will give you an idea of how flavors play together.

Cheers man and thanks for your input!
I need to get the mixing ratio right though.. I hear that some flavors are to be the main base while others are just to give a twist of taste to the mix. So it would be useful to know which is which
Another question, and excuse my ignorance, but does TFA stand for (The Flavor Apprentice) ? and where do I buy those sweeteners or scents if there are any. I Just checked the Flavor Apprentice prices online in the US and damn, aren't we getting ripped off in europe grrrrr I pay 9$ per 15ml while it is below 3$ in the US.. Damn

Yes, TFA = The Flavor Apprentice. You are correct - some flavors are the "bases" whereas others are complements. I approach mixing based on what I want to taste. I mixed up an orange-pineapple juice the other day (I love orange pineapple juice to drink). So I started with higher percentages of the two primaries. Then, to "smooth" out the fruits, I dropped in some sweet cream as well as a couple other things (don't remember off the top of my head at this moment....) It's still a bit "tart" for me, so my next iteration will probably have a little more cream of some sort.

I'm not sure - will WizardLabs deliver to the UK? Their prices are about $4/30ml of many of the TFA flavors.
ETA - just checked. WizardLabs only delivers to US addresses - sorry....

You can order direct from TFA, they offer intl shipping.

It would be wise to contact them as they may know of someone local who carries their brand.

On a side note -tfa double ry4 with a dash of Bavarian cream ,,,good stuff.

And I vape gallons of the original caramel, no nic or anything lol.taste juste like little caramel squares.
