I have an Atlantis tank which I've been using with an smpl and Efest battery, it started to lack vapor production and then the mod and firing button got extremely hot, as well as the battery. I realize it shorted somewhere but the way that all works really confuses me. Could anyone give me any insight as to what I did wrong or what changes I need to make? I'm terrified of having a battery vent or explode on me.

You just answered your own question.

Efest are some of the worst batteries. You need some high drain batteries lime LG, Sony, Samsung25r, etc.

I would recommend you get onto a regulated mod. Because they have safety features that prevents problems of firing too low, over heating of the board, reverse battery protection etc.

Might want to check out the history of using direct connect mods with subtanks and wrong rda's.

Very little to do with the batt because the mod/atty is grounding out.

To the op, watch Susan's video. And feel very lucky, these direct connect mods have popped before from shorting out the atty.

Where did you get the setup? If a vapeshop set it up but didnt warn you I wouldnt go back.

the smpl has no centerpin and is dangerous in the hands of those who don't understand it.

I agree hr should not go back to that vape shop.

I some 18650s can handle sub ohm currents and many can't.

Would feel a lot better about it if he left the Mech for a regulated device.

Perfectly stated, man! I'm of the opinion that the SMPL and other hybrid mods are perfectly safe and functional... in the RIGHT hands. (Never could trust a leftie!) But seriously... yes, one must completely understand the mod and how it works. Must have the correct topper for it. Must have the proper batteries for it. And absolutely must possess an abundance of common sense. There are far too many of these mods being sold to unknowing/untrained vapers... the only positive thing is that there are a bunch of people here on ECF that can guide the new guys/gals.

Yup. Get away from that SMPL. Your topper is shorting out at the 510 connection. You are very lucky it hasn't blown up yet, and it you keep it up it's just a matter of time. Get a regulated mod and some good batteries.
Could not say it better or agree more.

I carried a SMPL as a backup if my istick40tc ran out of juice. As soon as I got a mod that used 18650s I tossed the SMPL in a box of vape gear.

Many people like Mechs. I do not. I like the ability to control the Temp of my vape instead of hitting the coil with whatever power the battery has.

Agree with all that. I will add one more thing.

MECH'S SHOULD NEVER BE PUT INTO THE HANDS OF A NEWBIE

I wouldn't go that far. I would be perfectly comfortable handing my Knight mod over to a newbie with a carto-tank on top of it. I just wouldn't throw them an RDA and a spool of 20g wire with no training and walk away...

Well said. It isn't about low builds. It's about good builds.

Exactly! I mean, even an Atlantis with a .5 ohm coil is perfectly acceptable on a mech... just not a SMPL! It's about knowing what atty works with what mod, and with which battery. Even with builds, there's no need to go super low resistance. A .5 ohm build on a mech with small gauge wire will heat quickly and if you use the proper wire you can still do that with enough wraps to get plenty of surface area... then you need to worry about your airflow. Then you've got a build with great flavor, decent vapor production, and a very happy vaper! Ask me how I know? :D

A Battery, Mod and or Switch getting Hot is a Warning Sign that something is WRONG. And you should stop using it Immediately.

What type of Mod are you Using?

I am happy with 8-9 wraps with 2mm internal diameter of 26 gauge Kanthal.

8 wraps gives me .78-.83 ohms
9 wraps gives me .89-.94 ohms.

My current is 8 wraps and .79 ohm. About as close to .8 ohms as I could get. I will use that coil until the resistance goes to 1.0 ohms or fails.

Noticed at a supplier that they listed some tanks ( like the Kanger Sub- tank) as "Hybrid". Hybrid, as in replaceable coils OR RTA.
 Good way to confuse people into thinking that's the proper atty for a hybrid mod...
