I came across this -->
AAA BATTERY CIGARETTE LIGHTER~NoGAS~WINDPROOF~FLAMELESS - eBay (item 380147839722 end time Jan-07-10 05:10:11 PST)
and think it would work as a great battery housing for a mod.

It is a battery powered windproof lighter, that uses 2 AAA batteries. That only supplies 3 volts, and am curious, is that enough for good vapor? Or do i need more like 4.5v???

If so, are there any AAA sized batteries that will offer a higher voltage?

Any suggestions/advice are/is highly appreciated!

I bought some of those to mod and never got to it.. It shouldn't be too bad to do and you can rewire it so the batteries are in parallel instead of series for a longer life at 3.7 volts.

The hole where the coil is now is too big for a typical battery connector though and would need some type of filler.. The coil that is in there does get red hot but is pretty much an open hole to the inside of the thing so really not usable.

The switch is not an actual switch but a slide that moves a spring wire to make contact with the top of one of the batteries, the other side is pushed against the heating coil holder which looks like the end of a small lightbulb.

As far as a lighter, they work but chew through batteries at an alarming rate :)

Just tried and a protected 10440 batteries fit with no problems.

It would make a really cool mod..

I've used these to make a couple of mods. Both use a recessed RCA connector (ala Warp). One has protected 10440s (from Cisco) wired in parallel for long-life 3.7V, and the other has them wired in serial for higher voltage.

I was thinking of ordering a case of these, and making some low-cost PVs with the RCA ports, and selling them along with adapters for different atomizers. It would be nice to make some money from this habit (err... hobby), instead of always spending it.
