So, just completed building a mod, popped in an 18650 battery, and the spring on the negative lead to the battery box turned bright red and the plastic started to melt. Managed to pull out the battery before any real damage was done. I'll have to replace the battery box. I can't figure out what went wrong, everything looks like its wired correctly.

deffenetly a short ...hate to admit it bin there ...done that.wired a switch across the battery.
now some thoughts......that's why engeneers use high resistence springs ...for safty ??or to cut the performance by one third ??or is that costomers insist on that "safty device " ?? is safty to melt your mod or set your shirt on fire ??or at best make a good hand warmer .
bypass the spring AND MAKE SURE TO USE A PT RESETTEBLE FUSE .
