I'm considering going to my local vape shop to buy a new mod. I would like an integrated battery that comes with a tank. I would also like it to be about $50. Any suggestions?
My first thought was don't buy a mod that just happens to come with a tank. I used to work in a vape shop, and in my experience the tanks that came with a mod were usually subpar.

I believe you should either buy a mod or a tank separately based on how they perform independently. I can't say that I can recommend a combo mod/tank setup in your price range. Just my opinion.

My second thought was you are also going to be paying much more if you buy from a vape shop. I'm all for supporting local vape shops but if you're short on cash consider buying online. If sales people in a vape shop offered to show you how to use the mod and how to set up the tank, then that might be one reason to purchase from a shop. Especially if you are a new vaper. However, it seems these days many of the sales staff in vape shops are not that knowledgable in the products they sell.

For a tank that uses drop in coils, I'd recommend an Aspire Nautilus (regular or mini) if you're a MTL vaper ($25). My personal favorite is the Uwell Crown (original) which can be either a MTL or DTL tank depending upon the air adjustment ring ($23).

For the mod, maybe an eLeaf iPower ($34) or Pico ($29). Again, you will likely pay double these prices in a vape shop.

While I believe in supporting local shops, for $50 any combo you get is not going to be a good one, unless they have some crazy deal going. A decent tank is going to be at least $25-$30 and up locally, so doesn't leave much room for a mod.

It's all going to come down to where you live and what type of shops are around you. Most of the ones around me cost double to triple online prices.

My local vape shop can usually match or come close enough to online prices if you figure the shipping in the price. Not all B&M's are a rip off.

They're not all but many of the ones I've visited at home and in travel were up there. I generally buy liquids local as they are pretty close to online, especially factoring in shipping.

Some shops just can't buy enough in quantity to get the price down. I don't mind paying more than online, I get they have to make a profit but when shops want $50 for an apocalypse that they got from FT for $7, I have an issue. I actually saw this last weekend at my buddy's old shop, the guy he sold it to is super nice but way too high.

EDIT: You're lucky having fair priced shops, they are a diamond in the rough.

I said MY Local Vape Shop and that is singular! Out of the 3-4 in a mile of me there are only 2 that will charge fair prices and one charges me less because I will tell him straight out, What The Heck Man are you crazy? Helps I did the Digital Media Display in the back of his store and do work on his Network when he calls!

I second the eleaf ipower or Pico. Both are great mods and have definitely served their purpose for me. The ipower has insane battery life and the Pico is solid. I'm looking to upgrade soon but for a year of vaping these mods have taken various drops and abuse but keep going.

Good luck in your choice, I think a tank depends more on your vaping style.

I bought, via mail order, an Aspire Zelos kit eight months ago and used it to quit a forty year cigarette habit. It's compact, has an internal 2500mah battery and uses the Nautilus 2 tank. It's strictly an MTL device, but, of course, you can use the mod with whatever tank you wish should you decide to buy a different atomizer later. It sells online for around $50 from a variety of retailers - I not sure what you might pay at a brick and mortar shop for it.

I'd second the Zelos kit as a good starter kit, but agree not sure what it would cost (if you can even find it) in your local shop. Probably at your local shop for $50 you'd be looking at an AIO (sometimes harder to manage) or a pen style setup, which if that is what you are looking for you can probably find, and it could be a decent setup depending on which ones they carry. I don't really have a recommendation on that, sorry.

Best of luck though,

Anna
