hello all, ettiene here. my silly ego stopped working and as finances are a little tight right now i decided to mod it a wee bit. was originally just going to make a little passthrough mod to plug into my usb hub but the longer i faffed around the more complex the end goal has become. right now the aim is ending up with a nice new vape tube that takes rechargeable batteries in form factor AA, 14500 and the longer 14650.

got an old twisp ecig from a mate a while back and tried to fix it and managed to nuke the battery, but kept the rest for parts. also have the bits for my 1100 mah ego clone. paid the extra few bucks on ebay for it, tube was longer with 650 mah battery inside. swine!
got an old aluminium tube flashlight from another mate, had an old battery that glued itself in there. so first off was clearing the tube and cutting it down some to make it manageable.

next is getting the old twisps 510 connector seated properly and flush with enough space for the switch and battery. since i will be using the tubes body as my ground i wanted to make darn sure the positive connection of the battery, switch or carto connector wasn't going to touch any part of the body. decided on a wooden dowell insert. should be able to carve out spaces for the switch and wires and i can use tiny wittle screws later to securely mount the wood into the tube.

well that's how far i am now. tips suggestions and dire warnings most appreciated :2cool:

sorta jumped into this whole thing head first. firing button i want to use is a 4 pin little push switch off an old broken coffee makers pcb

Just check if it is on the 220v side and not on the low voltage side. Some circuits use a tiny low amp switch to trigger a high voltage contact or relay that can handle the high amps needed for the element of the coffee maker.
Nowadays you get small switches that can handle high amps but if it is old then forget it. It will burn closed like in welded closed and blow your bat if it is not a protected bat.

;) thanks for the venthole reminder
i'm pretty sure its a low voltage control board, got it off a recently dead russel hobbs coffee maker pcb that has 2 led's on it and wires much to thin to carry all that much current. somehow stuffed up my other thumb now also so modding going a bit slower with 2 thumbs in plasters. typing has become a whole new experience :p

whilst i go raiding for another switch just in case, also started working on my ego battery battery. i say battery twice because the ego battery doesnt really have an external casing and my mod is being made to take normal rechargeables that do have an external casing. ideally i would like to run a 14650 battery in my mod and various online shops tell me that the protected version of said battery is around 68.2mm. as luck would have it the old twisp battery tube plus the ego tubes plastic bottom cap comes to almost exactly that. busy fiddling with making the positive battery pole then i'll post some more pics

still want to try doing a steak straight on the coals. comes out amazing if done right i hear

Rob Forbes did something like that, and showed me the ropes when he was still working at Tuks.
The Rules:

Wood fire only! No charka or other Brickets/Houtskool. They contain fuel to aid in burning.
Get a bag of Sekelbos, and get it going.

When the fire is at it's hottest, but no more flames drop a whole fillet directly on those red/amber coals

2 minutes on each side. maybe 2:30 if it is a thick fillet.
When turning, around, put on hot part of fire. When you leave it for the 1st 2.5 minutes, it kills the heat below it. Make sure when you turn it around, you put it on a fresh section of the fire.

Dust off the ash, and pieces of coal stuck to it. No need to go crazy about it. Just the obvious pieces. I promise, you will be fine.

Cut into medallions, and serve with green salad and cherry tomatoes, and starch of your choice.

Thank me in the morning.
