Classwife, there is precious little social going on in the sigelei thread. The discussions are about how to fix the sigelei mechanicals to actually work or mod them. It's unlikely people would find the information they need in a social thread.

+1 THIS. Exactly!

Here is the main Sigelei thread, only as an example. 160+ pages in a month and a half. At least six different models are being discussed in this thread alone and it's getting difficult to tell posts about one model to the next, even for those of us that have been there since that thread was started: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/apv-discussion/399678-sigelei-mechnical-mods.html

Being able to post photos in threads relevant to specific models is also important. I'm not sure you can add inline photos to a social group. These "affordable" mechanical mod threads aren't just about fanboys showing off... it's a new extension to the hobby with lots of tinkerers involved and sharing their knowledge with others. Collaboration on improvements.

Which can all be done in the social group. eVic users had one before a sub-forum was ultimately created for that device. You could certainly do the same. Sub-forum creation, while not impossible, is rare.

I understand. So multiple users *can* post links and inline photos in a single thread, in a social group?

Is there anywhere I can look at a detailed comparison between a social group and a forum? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know about a comparison, per se, but you can click on Community at the top, then Groups. Choose one of them to see how they work (most are public, but some are private). I believe the only thing missing is the "Like" button.

I've looked at a few groups. I have yet to see a single example of a link and/or inline photo being used in any of them. Might just be the ones I looked at but no go.

Thanks for your attention and any assistance you might provide! :)

I knew there wasn't a mech sub.
I just didn't want to waste thread space on something that was somewhere I had to dig (dug everywhere).

I like the HD aspects of the mechs, and plan to live in sub-ohm territory, as I can see many others doing as well.
So I'm sure we will get the most out of the extra space.

Give us a home.
It would only be one new lane. Mechanical Mods.

One of the advantages of a group - they are run by and moderated by you, the members. Obviously they have to follow forum rules but they are moderated by whomever you decide will be the moderator. It's a good way to see how active a group will be.

Keep in mind that whenever we add a sub-forum we get members screaming whenever we move threads. :D

At least for myself and my fellow Sigelei lovers I think the only word we might be screaming is "thanks!" :D

Being able to post photos inline is crucial to the collaboration aspect of this particular brand... and it's shared with many of the non-Sigelei "clones" as well (look at the Caravela clone thread as a further example). These are "affordable mechs" which are in part made so by really lackluster Chinese R&D that creates a very wide area for improvement and customization. We like to share what works, and what doesn't, with our fellow tinkerers. :)

As an example I'm working on a way to make a tamper proof cap off of a four year old bottle of Dekang work as a replacement part for a piece of delrin I clumsily melted on one of mine.

The social group IS up and running! Link in my signature at the bottom of this post.

For future reference I DO notice one non-cosmetic difference... posts are limited to 1000 characters each. Not impossible to work around but not as convenient as a forum for very wordy, descriptive posts.
