The main reason that mods came into being initially was that the factory produced version of the electronic cigarette was woefully insufficient in battery life and power output. Add to that the fact that for quite awhile it looked like e-cig imports might cease all together due to FDA meddling and you had enough reason to try to make your own device from easily available batteries and whatever tube or box you could find lying around. Commercially made mods followed quickly on the heels of those born in home workshops. The design behind your eGo follows the same logic that influenced the original mods, that longer battery life was sufficient reason for a personal vaporizer to no longer look like a cigarette.

Most people buy mods now either to gain additional voltage, to overcome battery or operational shortcomings or just to satisfy personal aesthetic preference. I have two eGos with me all the time and am quite satisfied with them, but still build, buy and browse for mods quite a bit. You will notice many people here own many different mods. Collecting them can become a hobby in itself.

It comes down to flexibility, voltage - fixed or variable, connections 510/901/808/801/306, extended battery life & low replacement costs, juice delivery systems - bottom or top juice feeders, atty’s, carto’s , tank mods. The best way is to figure out what is important to you and go from there. A lot of people are very happy with the Ego, some people want more.
If you list what your hoping to achive you will get some good advice.

I moved into mods because I wanted to have warmer vapor, greater battery life and I wanted to give HV vaping a try. Both of my mods have support four different thread types and let me choose between 3.7, 5 and 6V vaping. I decided against buying a more expensive VV because I wasn't sure if I would like HV vaping and it turns out that I was right. HV is okay, but it's not something that I do on a regular basis. I prefer 3.7V with LR attys and cartos.

I get much better battery life with my mods as well. I can use a variety of batteries with them to suit my needs. I can use a 3.7V 750mAh in my Chameleon that makes it smaller than my Riva, or I can use the extension cup with a 14650 1300 mAh and vape all day. My Indulgence uses 18350's if I want it to be smaller and 18650's which are 2900mAh so I can vape for a couple of days if I'm so inclined. I love them and use both of them daily.

Mine was economic. I got a Saber Touch 3.7/6 volt. I'm on a fixed income and had 6 xl Vapor4Life batteries at 17.95 a piece. If one goes there goes another 17.95, where now if one of my 4 sets of batteries goes I'll be out $4-6 depending on the battery. Also I like the 6vlt it gives warmer vapor. I also like that I don't have a button that breaks or malfunctions and the warranty is 5yrs.
