Thought I'd post an example of how I test a new flavour. Got a bunch of new flavours and additives in just in time for Christmas. There is many ways of doing this but those of us who sample test know that it helps with becoming somewhat familar with a new flavouring and really cuts down on the dead ends. I'm not saying this is "the way" just a way. I do use a scale as it makes doing these small testers and recipes easy, quick and reproduceable.
Wild StrawBerry by MolinBerry.
I mixed 5 testers 2.5 mls at 1%, 3%, 5%, 7% and 10%, 30pg/70vg, 7% nic (I bumped my nic level up 1% to try to reduce my daily consumption a bit). After 7 days here is my flavour notes. I did vape a small amount of different %'s throughout the 7 days to get an idea how they were steeping. Just mixed n shaked, then placed in a dark cupboard, shaken for a minute or two daily. Cap on for the full 7 days. Tested with a velocity mini rda, dual coils, .5ohms 8 wrapps of 26g, 3 ml diameter, cotton bacon wicking on a Kanger subox mini at 22.5 watts.
2 hours: 5 n 10 % A bit of perfume/floral
Day 2: 3% perfume/floral wee bit of strawberry
7% perfume/floral wee bit of strawberry, bit of seed
Day 4: 5% still some perfume/floral, the taste of seeds is present
10% still some perfume/floral, the taste of seeds is pronounced
Day 5: 1% hint of seed
Day 6: 3% bit of seeds, perfume/floral present.
7% perfume/floral barely detectable, light strawberry taste, seed taste present
Day 7: 1% not much flavour, hint of seed, perfume/floral gone
3% bit of perfume/floral, hint of strawberry, can taste the seeds.
5% some strawberry, seeds, perfume/floral barely detectable
7% strawberry on inhale, tastes seeds in mouth, bit of strawberry lingers in mouth after x-hale
10% strawberry on inhale, taste seeds in mouth, strawberry lingers after x-hale
Impressions: Could probably benefit from leaving the cap off 2 x 20 minutes to get rid of perfume/floral. Though after 7 days only the 3% had the perfume/floral present enough that I would have any concern that it wouldn't disapear in a recipe. Not a standalone for my palate as most fruits, as others have mentioned, require a base to really shine.
I think this would be good mixed with another strawberry to add the taste of "seeds" or with other fruits to add authenticy to a mix. Other fruits from various companys haven't made much of an impression on me as a standalone, the exception being TFA apricot, that flavour is strong and intense even by itself, though I've only tryed about a dozen fruits and they all were more interesting in a recipe then alone.
I'm looking forward to adding this to tfa strawberry ripe with capella's strawberry. Should make a killer strawberry to add to any recipe. I'll be playing with this by trying different %'s of the 3 strawberrys together when the rest of my flavour order arrives as my fav supplier was out of tfa strawberry ripe when I ordered.
Remember everyone taste buds are different and YMMV
Next week MolinBerry BlueBerry.
