Quick update on this. Previously found that 3mmx50mm machine screws worked. Also, now, find that 4-40 x 2" machine screws work great. Advantage here is that they are readily available in a pan head. I ground mine down to flatten it (the head).

Do the stock nuts fit on the 3x50?

No. You must get the 3mm (M3) nuts and washers. Better yet, you gotta grind them down, cause their outside diameter is way too big.


(4-40 has it's own nuts; will check for swap-ability w/ metric)

Nuts are interchangeable (3mm & 4-40). Mentioned in long ago previous post: metric is a flat head (triangle shaped in profile). This works just fine, without alteration. To be clear; all nuts must be ground down (I think) and none of this works with any of original post or nuts.
