Interesting topic. Some really strange answers though.

eGos and mods are just batteries. Unless you're putting your battery in your mouth they do not affect the flavor at all.

What does affect the flavor is the topper which can be tailored to provide basically the exact same flavor for any battery you put under it. Mods will allow you to adjust the power on the fly, but the end result can be equally achieved with an eGo and a properly tailored coil. Ultimately what you are trying to achieve is a topper with a coil that heats up to X temperature. How that temperature is achieved is irrelevant, you can do it by adjusting the power of the mod or by using a coil that produces that temperature on whatever battery you use. Either way produces the same end results.

Mods don't make anything taste better, all they do is make it easier to make changes to the operating temperature of the coil, but those changes do not require a mod to make them.

    ^^This. It's the topper.

Look at an eGo type battery as being VR (variable resistance) instead of VV or VW, and from an ohms law stand point you will see that there is nothing that can't be done with fixed voltage that can be done that with VV. The only real difference is convenience. The VV/VW APV does things for you. With fixed voltage you have to do more things for yourself. In the end, there is no difference between figuring the resistance that will give you the best vape, and figuring the voltage that will give you the best vape.

Just understand that as you become more advanced, you will need to move beyond just ohms law, and think about thermodynamics.

(just let you wicks get dry, and you will understand)

Have you tried dripping? The easiest way to start is to pick up an lr 510 atomiser and a drip tip + Ego cone. You'll be glad you did - flavour from dripping is the best imho. It's not as convenient as a clearo but that's the price you pay for flavour - and you'll soon get used to it. After that try an RDA if you like - also excellent flavour - but a bit fiddlier. An lr 510 will work perfectly well on an Ego, too, so don't rush out and buy fancy new gear until you've tried this.

what kind of battery is that?

It's an Innokin SVD VV/VW device ($37; fasttech) with an 18350 Efest IMR high drain 800 mah battery inside.

Also carto's have the worst flavor.
Try dripping to see the difference.

    Taste is subjective.

Often times, ease of use and portability is more viable for some one who isn't into dripping (all of the time).
I feel the IBTank is an upgrade from the SMOK DCT.

Maybe take a look at this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/variable-voltage-apv-discussion/488840-rattlesnake-effect-why-cheapo-vv-exception-itaste-mvp-dont-vape-same-provari-dna20d.html
