Getting annoyed yet... Here are some more questions!

1) Is 80% PG/20% VG mix good for vaping? I have been buying premixed liquids and I'm liking them but most people online are saying that mix isn't right?

2) I want to start DIY eventually but it seems extremely confusing, one site I'm looking at sells either 100% PG or 50% VG... How do I know which one to choose??

3) Do Boge Cartomisers for use in the Liquinator tanks use a silica wick?

4) Has anyone used the Z-atty Pro? Seems expensive and I'd like to know why? Looks like a normal tank but with SS mesh for the wick, does that aliviate the worrys people have with silica wicks?

5) This whole vaping thing is great and a new experience for me, I want to buy everything that I see online and try it haha but can't do that because I will go broke, is it normal to want to build a collection like that? or am I just crazy?

Thanks in advance...

Rob.

Hi Rob... I hope this finds you well and in good cheer. I thought I'd toss out another thought or two....

1) Is 80% PG/20% VG mix good for vaping? I have been buying premixed liquids and I'm liking them but most people online are saying that mix isn't right?

...just fine. 70/30 PG/VG is also good. VG is thick (so it is more difficult to wick/seep into a cartomizer, etc) ..but it makes bigger clouds of vapor...which some people like more than others...

2) I want to start DIY eventually but it seems extremely confusing, one site I'm looking at sells either 100% PG or 50% VG... How do I know which one to choose??

...VG - that is harder to get the flavors to meld with too.... 50/50 is probably fine to get some clouds... maybe get both and mix them together... then you got 75/25 ... right? :) ...I don't think you ought to go too heavy into the VG w/o knowing you want to do that.

3) Do Boge Cartomisers for use in the Liquinator tanks use a silica wick?

dunno about that.... are you thinking you need to buy silica wick to get them to work? Cartos generally are ready to go....etc... but I don't know what they use for filler...

4) Has anyone used the Z-atty Pro? Seems expensive and I'd like to know why? Looks like a normal tank but with SS mesh for the wick, does that aliviate the worrys people have with silica wicks?

I have one. It's fine. Worth it? I don't care to get into that right now.... mostly (for me) it alleviates the expense of buying cartos and atomizers, etc.... RBA's are cost effective... but I think you should read/think about it as much as you can before you pull the trigger...

5) This whole vaping thing is great and a new experience for me, I want to buy everything that I see online and try it haha but can't do that because I will go broke, is it normal to want to build a collection like that? or am I just crazy?

... :) cheers.... (not crazy)

Thanks in advance...

you bet. All the best, ~M

No, you are not crazy, find my thread in the newbies section. I don't recommend you do what I did.
There might be some helpful info in there though.

As for Silica wicks, Yeah, the concerns are that they are glass, if you dry vape them they shatter and you inhale them.
There are a couple of threads around about it. Not sure I am worried about it, but I am trying cotton. Have not re-wicked my Mini Nova's yet, but will this week.

Juice Ratio is subjective to each individual. You will have to find your own mix and flavors.
Start with trying by 10's ratios, 60/40, 30/70 (PG/VG) etc, then you can alter them wit either PG or VG, not too much or you will mute the flavor and nic content.

I would recommend you start there with DIY rather than going full bore.

hmmm....

I don't know enough to tell you, but..... I would think to make up a bunch of the unflavored nic fluid at the ratio you want it to be... (and you can look into the online mixing calculators all over the place for the ratios - to help).
..........then..... I would mix up smaller amounts with flavorings as you go along... to test what you might like. Maybe 10ml.. to see/test it..then move to larger quantities...

idk.... it just seems easier to have a bunch of the unflavored nic ready to go, rather than messing with the ratios to get the nic juice ready each time. Just adding the flavors to the juice is my plan, but I haven't had time to mix master the liquid in the box next to me :)

...good luck, and all the best with it tho... & any further thoughts or questions are more than welcome.

...cheers, ~M

EDIT: P.S. 80/20... 70/30.... 75/25.... that is about all the same. I don't think you would notice any vape difference between those ratios.

haha thanks kelli, and thanks nick for those answers, lets see if I got this right...

I want to make 30ml liquid in a particular flavour in an 80/20 mix

so I need 80% of the flavoured liquid in 100% PG concentration and then I need 20% unflavoured VG, right?

The flavoring is a factor in your mix ratio. Most flavorings are in a PG base, so take your flavoring percentage out of the PG. For example, if you assume 10% flavoring, it would be 70% PG, 10% flavoring, 20% VG to end up with an 80/20 mix.

Your ratio doesn't have to be exact - a couple points of difference in mix ratio of PG/VG won't be an issue.

Ok I'm getting there, found this online and had a question:

We are going to mix 30ml of Cauldron-eJuice Witches Brew at 12mg in a 75%PG, 25%VG Ratio

Take 15ml of Witches Brew 100%PG Doubler and place into an empty 30ml Bottle (Vape Mix)
Add 7.5ml of 48mg/ml VG Nicotine to your Vape Mix
Add 7.5ml of 0mg Unflavoured PG to your Vape Mix
Result is 30ml of 12mg (12mg being 1/4 of 48mg or 7.5ml being 1/4 of 30ml) Witches Brew.

So could I substitute it to be this way for 6mg nicotine?

Add 7.5ml of 24mg/ml PG Nicotine to your Vape Mix
Add 7.5ml of 0mg Unflavoured VG to your Vape Mix

I only have my nicotine in 24mg/ml 80%PG/20%VG

...yep. Looks like your math is correct to me (at least at this point in the day). That should get you 6mg juice.
...Is 6mg juice about what level you've been vaping?
Cheers, ~M

Great! Yeah a bit low I know but the last 2 years I had been smoking 1mg analogues so I didn't want to be intaking too much nicotine.

It's really up to the vaper. Some have a snsitivity to PG so they either use 100% or a high ratio VG.
Juice Components
Flavoring usually about 15%- could be higher or lower depending on the flavor used.
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- water like - many of us believe PG to be a throat irritant.
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG.
I presently vape 85/ 15 PG/ VG because I'm vaping 2 mg juice and needed the TH/ throat irritant.

2) I want to start DIY eventually but it seems extremely confusing, one site I'm looking at sells either 100% PG or 50% VG... How do I know which one to choose??
I use 100% PG based Flavorless Nicotine juice because it's thin and easier to work with. I add VG to get the correct ratio. Also PG based Nic juice stores in the freezer much better than VG based Nic juice. It really is quite easy and prolly the toughest part is finding the right flavor IMO.

No it's quite normal. I have a wishlist and when I see a particular item on that list being deeply discounted I grab it. I've amassed a healthy "collection" and have spent a minimal amount on my gear and juice.

Thanks for all the answers so far guys, I think I got it... Can someone confirm? The calculator just confused me so I went old school pen and paper calculations.

I'm using 24mg nicotine in 80PG/20VG% unflavoured liquid, to get 6mg I need to dilute 5ml into 20ml of liquid for 1/4 of 24mg.

5ml should be 4ml PG and 1ml VG based on 80/20.

If I use a 10ml doubler flavour liquid in 100% PG, I can then add 5ml of nicotine liquid and 5ml unflavoured VG

This should give me a 70PG/30VG% mixture with 6mg of nicotine...

Hopefully... then to make larger or smaller amounts I can adjust all the ml by how much I'm trying to make.
