Vendor: Mountain Oak Vapors
Liquid: Full Virginia Flake RY4 9mg 70/30 PG/VG
Setup: Dripping on a standard smartvapes atomizer with 18350 epipe
Description: FULL VIRGINIA FLAKE RY4 is a Limited Edition (while supplies last) NET RY4 e-liquid blend from Mountain Oak Vapors™. What is NET? you ask? It's a Naturally Extracted tobacco flavoring that we have extracted ourselves in house using Full Virginia Flake pipe tobacco. To that we add a bit of Caramel and Vanilla flavoring to make it an authentic RY4 experience. The extraction process for this particular limited edition run has taken around 3 months to produce from start to finish and is made possible by a famous Full Virginia Flake pipe tobacco from which the tobacco base flavoring was derived. In house Naturally Extracted Tobacco flavorings are NOT approved by the FDA for food based consumption. This is the only NET Blend Mountain Oak Vapors™ has available for sale, and it is the only one that uses NET flavoring that we have ever sold.
Thoughts:
First off, a big thanks to MOV (Mountain Oak Vapors) for detailing this eliquid. Many vendors leave out so many details about their liquids that it frustrates me. I understand company secrets, but sometimes there's no helpful information at all. I did buy this with my own money so this review is going to be as unbiased as possible.

A year ago natural extracted tobacco (NET) eliquids were very few. It seems to becoming in fashion now (something I am very grateful for) and a few vendors have decided to take on the task. I mainly vape NETs now and am one that gets tired of vaping the same thing for awhile and look forward to new things. Usually it's a pretty bad miss; occasionally it's a home run. I was first able to sample MOV's tobaccos awhile back when they only offered artificial tobaccos. While good, I'm not usually a fan of artificial tobaccos.

I am in no way a RY4 expert. I never had the original and usually don't go for sweet tobaccos, a quality usually found in RY4. The minute I heard this was released I went out of my comfort zone and ordered it. I received this on Monday, Dec. 10th. When I first opened the bottle, I smelled extremely sweet caramel. I dripped a few drops and took a draw. Extremely sweet caramel and vanilla filled my mouth with a very slight tobacco on the exhale. I took the cap off for two days and have let it steep.

After a few days, I decided to try it again. I dripped again so here we go. This eliquid totally changed. The caramel and vanilla are now a back note to the Virginia tobacco. It has turned from a sweet eliquid to a tobacco with subtle sweet nuances. The tobacco is on a mild note which compliments the sweetness. This is a pretty clean NET (something rarely seen) and I don't taste burnt ash after the eliquid is all used up.

At 9mg, the throat hit is pretty good. I definitely felt it. The vapor production is also very good.

Final Thoughts:
Looks like we have a new vendor to watch in the NET world. MOV has created a very good eliquid in their first run at NETs. With a great flavor, throat hit, and vapor, this liquid comes recommended from me. I can't wait to see what MOV has for the future. 8/10

Great review, luce!

I've got a bottle of MOV Virginia Flake RY4 that's been steeping for five days. Based on your lovely review, I think I'll take off the cap and let it steep another week before sampling and reviewing it on the RY4 Roundup thread.

The funny thing is, even though I'm the RY4 Poobah, I'm right with you about sweet NET hybrid blends versus more straight-ahead NET tobaccos. While I still enjoy many of the sweet blends, I find myself leaning more and more toward the unadorned NETs. Heck, I don't even vape RY4s for my own pleasure anymore. Now it's just my "job." LOL.

Your "Natural Tobaccos" thread is now my second home on ECF, even though my opinions sometimes get me into trouble.

I have been sampling this juice for a couple of days. It's only 5 days old, including shipping time, so it is still very fresh and lightly steeped.

Initial impression is good. I definitely get a lot of sweet from beginning to end. After really tasting the juice and thinking about it, the flavors I get are popped kettle corn that has been coated with melted marshmallow and toasted to a golden brown. Friggin' delicious!! Great vapor production and TH, even at 9mg strength. The juice is full-bodied, silky smooth, and exploding with flavor.

I look forward to the Virginia tobacco coming forth and being a a more prominent element to the flavor. Time will tell.

I agree with Luce about how nice it is to have a vendor that is open about the ingredients, including the types of tobacco used in their extractions. I also love the low'n'slow approach to the extraction process.

I ordered 5 juices in all from MOV, and from what I have tasted so far, I think Brandy is going to be one busy little bee as word about these juices spreads.

Thank you so much Luce! I was going to give up on this one, and perhaps RY4s in general, as far too sweet, to much vanilla, and not enough NET tobacco goodness. But, I see that there is hope, as mine is just starting its steep. So glad I found your review, and very much looking forward to witnessing its transformation into something I can vape, hopefully!

Below is a link to my review of MOV Full Virginia Flake RY4 that was posted on The Really Big RY4 Roundup thread back on December 23rd. In the single month since Christmas, much has transpired in RY4 Land and the Widening World of NETs, so my review may already be a bit dated.

Link: MOV Full Virginia Flake RY4 review

I got out the carto of MOV FVF RY4 that sits on my desk, along with 100 other carto-loaded RY4s, which I use to comparison-vape RY4s when writing new RY4 reviews. The juice in that carto has now had a month of additional steeping time, and a significant change I noticed tonight---actually, it leaped out at me---was the strong and pervasive buttery component. Not oily, but definitely buttery. I didn't notice that quality when I wrote the December review, so I presume that it emerged with longer steeping.

The previous most buttery RY4 I've had was VapeKing VY4 (from Australia). MOV Full Flake is at least on a par with that, and perhaps even a little more buttery. VK4 isn't quite as sweet, though. Both are terrific and relatively unique in their butteriness.

One caveat: I stated in the review that the NET base in MOV Full Virginia Flake RY4 was the best (meaning tastiest) tobacco I'd had from MountainOakVapors, which was true at the time of writing the review. Since then, MOV has come out with two new NET-based tobaccos (Sunday Morning and Southern Gentleman), with two more just launched or soon to be (Pendragon and Two Rivers). I've had all four, plus new NETs from HHV (Heavenly Army), and MyVapeJuice (My Hero Tobacco and My Hero Vanilla). Three more NETs and a couple of hybrids are on tap for release by MVJ over the next month, including an NET-based RY4 called Rogue RY4. As a result, take what I wrote (about the "best" tobacco) with a grain of salt. The NET landscape is changing with dizzying speed.

RY4s have historically used synthetic, lab-based tobacco flavorings as their bases, in part because synthetic tobacco flavoring was the only type available when RY4 was created in 2007, and also in part because caramel and vanilla (which, with tobacco, form the Holy Trinity of RY4 core ingredients) are the flavors that harmonize best with synthetic tobaccos. No doubt RY4s of the Classic recipe profile will continue to use them.

Of the 120 RY4s currently reviewed and on The Really Big RY4 List, only eight use an NET base, with five others using Tobacco Absolute or Tobacco Extract (super-concentrates that are derived from real tobacco, but are not quite the same as NETs). That small number is likely to change substantially over the next year, as more NET vendors come out with their own NET-based Custom RY4s (Ahlusion recently began offering theirs, called Gold Rising, which I haven't yet vaped, and MVJ Rogue RY4 will be available at the end of February).

We may eventually find it worthwhile to subdivide the Custom RY4 genre into two distinct sub-categories: Synthetic Custom RY4s and NET Custom RY4s.

Wow Luce, you sure were correct. When I first tried the Flake, it was far too sweet and the vanilla was so strong, reminding me of powdered vanilla pudding from way back when. Just revisited the carto I had loaded almost two weeks ago, and man, that is one strong Virginia tobacco! Barely detecting the sweet and vanilla notes now in fact. I imagine what's in the steeped bottle is a little more in between, full tobacco flavor with noticeable sweet caramel and vanilla notes, and I will refill this carto soon to find out!
