Review for Mountain Oak Vapors – Double Barrel aged Vanilla Root Beer.

15ml – 18mg – 70/30 – Born on 11-14-2012

From the Mountain Oaks Website:

Double Barrel™ is nothing short of amazing. An authentic and delicious old style root beer taste. Bright and smooth vanilla notes make this one vape easy, and we finish it all off with a sweet touch of Caramel. Mmmm, Frosty!

This is a clear, light amber colored e-liquid that has a soft root beer aroma.

Throat Hit: 4
Flavor Strength: 4
Vapor Production: 5
Flavor Profile: Smooth & Authentic

The day I got the bottle I gave it a quick smell and taste, the vanilla seemed to be on the overpowering side in both areas. I first tried it in an LR Cartomizer to get a good feel for the juice and I liked it from the start, but honestly felt it needed a few days to calm down the Vanilla aspect. At the time I was also thinking this would be a better Tank or Clearomizer juice than with a Cartomizer due to the difference I could get in the overall vaping experience with a simple hardware change. I test my juices on basic eGo batteries for the most part, I don't want the hardware to overpower or control the juice. I say this a lot but it is how I feel, hardware will make or break a juice for you.

Using the right setup, temperature and delivery method that best suits your tastes is always the best. Some juices you want warm and others you want a little cooler. I will have an explanation of this idea up soon, to break it down quickly I approach juice like a foodie, certain flavors are expected to have a certain feel to them. You would not want to drink a hot lemonade or a cold coffee (unless it is meant to be that way of course). So you don't want to vape those flavors that way either, like chocolates are better on the warmer side and fruits are usually better on the cooler side. An extremely basic explanation but there you have it. I also believe that most juices will benefit from steeping and highly recommend a vigorous shaking before using a juice. I equate it to making an emulsion, you have liquids of different viscosities in that little bottle. Giving them a good shake will help to blend everything better and in the end give you a much better vaping experience.

With all of that in mind I feel this flavor works well cool or warm for me, I like it best warm in a Clearomizer setup. I feel a top coil type Clearomizer is the perfect match for this one. I am in fact vaping it as I write this review in a VISION Replaceable Stardust 1.6ml w/ 2.4ohm Long Wick on my Stainless Steel SMOKtech Telescope using a 3.7volt IMR 18500 battery. The initial setup was with an JoyeTech eGo 650mah battery and a Boge LR Cartomizer, which is still a good way to vape this juice if you really prefer using such a setup. I honestly think you will be much happier with the overall performance of this juice in the Clearomizer setup however.

Using my current setup for this juice I am getting stellar vapor production, so I would agree with their rating of 5 completely. Throat hit for me is really nice on both the draw and inhale an easy 3.5 to 4, which again agrees with their assessment of the juice. Where I see it different is in the overall flavor, I put it at a solid 5 right now. As you draw the vapor into your mouth the taste of the vanilla is a nice soft touch, you get really nice notes as the vapor swirls around your tongue. If you let it linger a bit before your inhale and draw in just a bit more air before you inhale, like you would with tasting wine, you get a really nice kick from the root beer flavoring. On the inhale and exhale is where the root beer really shines though, just incredible smooth root beer taste. Aftertaste brings back the vanilla some more in just the right amount.

The overall taste reminds me of two things, first being a really good quality house made root beer you can get from some of the restaurants that also brew their own beer. The other is also a high quality root beer popsicle, that really nice smooth and creamy feeling you get on your tongue after eating one. I do mean good quality, not the cheap ones that taste like cardboard. Root Beer is one of my top favorite things, a good quality one is hard to beat in my opinion. Speaking of opinions this entire review is just that, my opinion and you may not agree with me on any of the things I say or cover in this or any of my reviews. Taste is objective and we all have our favorite ways to vape, I don't mind having different setups for different juices. So if you hate Clearomizers, don't pass this juice up just because I say it's best in one. Vape it how you like and let me know what you think, all that matters is you are vaping!

On a side note, I went through 3ml of this juice while writing this review, so you know I really do like it! I would give this one a 5 star rating as a great Root Beer juice. If you enjoy a good quality Root Beer you will really like this one!

Nice pro-level review. Obviously not for people whose vaping is limited to a 510 mini-cig 280mah auto battery with prefilled cartos, but then I don't write for those people, either. Anyway, they tend not to hang out in the Juice Reviews Forum.

A humorous note is that, after stating that the review was your opinion (a necessary disclaimer that all juice reviewers should take to heart), you then mis-typed "Taste is objective." I knew you meant subjective, but it did provide a chuckle. Bloopers and out-takes are part of the fun. No matter how hard I try to make my reviews flawless, I still get my share of weird typos, cut-and-paste glitches, and malaprops, so I remind myself to lighten up. (I do, however, hate the invasive and stupid auto-spell-checkers that have now migrated from smart phones into home computer operating systems. I yearn for the "old days" when we could type something and be relatively certain to get whatever we actually typed...)

I loved MOV's Legendary, and was flirting with the idea of trying their Root Beer on my next order. Been burned twice by some truly horrific root beer juice before, so I hesitated..

End of Hesitation. Thanks, Krash! That was very nicely done!

Thank you, feel free to let them know in the comments when you order. If you don't like it for some reason, contact me and I will trade you for something else.
