Reading that it had the bottom usb charge port but not a passthrough feature was disappointing. I'd consider the extra length with such a small battery if i could at least have it plugged in when not on the go. 650 mah is just a couple hours too short to last me through the day, which is a bummer. 1000 mah here i come. Definitely bookmarked the website though, ill be coming back to see how he cleans this up. Im interested.

Yeah that would be much more functional. Plus you have to keep up with the end cap. I thought it was strange the USB cable is long enough to use it while plugged in.

Yeah well the charger is actually just a micro USB cord that plugs into the bottom - not an ego charger. Here's the correct link for the review The Super eGo: Variable Voltage (and a display!)

thats a big plus. i have several micro usb cords for some reason. i dont know where they keep coming from

edit: woops, i read that wrong. i thought it was mini-usb and not micro usb. no worries, as it comes with the charger.

Can anyone tell me if the display lights up on Super eGo: Variable Voltage when plugged into a USB port? Mine doesn't, but it does when I screw it into a regular eGo battery charger which charges it just fine.

Errol

yeah it stays lit up when charging thru the usb port. The battery meter displays the increasing # of bars loop to indicate a charging state like any older cell phone. The port on the battery is positioned where the cord fits really snug, so the first few times I had to use a little more pressure to push it in all the way. I have been meaning to see if the ego charger worked on it but every time I thought of it there was another battery charging so just stuck with the USB.

There has GOT to be a reason they would specifically market this battery to charge through the port if any ego charger will do the job. My guess is that they originally intended on this battery to also be a passthrough, but probably ran into some issues at some point too costly scratch the design and decided to release it anyway. If it was designed to be a variable voltage ego with LED display there is absolutely no reason to spend extra time and $ to incorporate the micro USB port into the design - unless it was out of necessity being the only was to charge it, or if it served an additional function that added value. It is kinda odd they specify the battery can't be used while the USB cord is connected, but do not mention that an ego charger will work as well. Also the lengthy cable they include would be about right for a passthrough.

As for the people hesitant to purchase anything other than a "quality" Joyetech product, I have purchased 2 650 twists in the last month. The first lasted 3 weeks before the button became displaced, and carefully opening it up to re-seat it turned into a disaster thanks to the "quality" soldering inside. That death of that one was mostly my fault, but recently ordered a red 650 and I don't think it's even been 2 weeks yet, but have been noticing the battery becoming loose where top fits in the battery casing already. Ate dinner at Chili's earlier, get home, reach in my pocket and this is what I pull out.

Typically I attach the twist to my lanyard because it is my smallest battery, but have to pocket it now and then cause my kids think it's there to play with when I pick them up. So while a Vivi tank on an ego battery might not be super pocket friendly, it should at least be built well enough not to fall apart in your pocket from walking or sitting in the car. This has NOT happened to me with any other ego type battery and twice with the twists in a months time. Have to solder 2 wires back on, but the soldering is the easy part - fitting it back all together without another wire snapping loose is a different story.

When you attach a long accessory to the top of any ego it essentially makes the "top" of the batt the new semi "center". When you move the joint of the connector to the center of the length then throw it in a pocket and sit in a car your pocket now lies at the bend of you legs. This will snap a battery. These things are tough but not designed as tanks:)

I would also be very disappointed if (actually when) this happened to me cause I love my twist.

A fellow on the VMax board had a similar situation, put his VMax in his pocket with a tank on it and the threads on the tank broke off in the VMax. Last I read he hadn't been able to get the parts out of his VMax. Suppose somethings got to give in that environment. :)

Disappointed to say the least - especially since it was barely a week old. Although my attempt at repairing my first twist proved to be a disaster, I took my time with this one and was able to solder the 2 wire back on without yanking off any other ones. The surgery was a success! If I have any other problems I doubt opening it back up will be an option thanks to krazyglue.

He might be referring to the 900 which I don't have, but the 650 I have does not work while charging thru the usb port. It disables the fire button when plugged in. Once I found out Ego chargers will work on this battery just the same I quit using the cord.

The idea of a separate rechargeable battery certainly appeals to me. Is the item on the right in stock.

Errol

I don't see it on the site but he said the 900 was on the way. I wonder what size battery that is. Not sure I'd want another device with a separate charger and more extra batteries though.

Good point, especially if it's a size I don't already have for other PVs.

Yeah no more different batteries for me. I just ordered a bolt and I know the AW 18650 will work in that and my vtube, but I wanted to try the Panasonic but I think the Bolt will need button top and the LT needs flat top. Would love it if everything was interchangeable.

I have to start being more careful with my PVs. Somehow the + button on the super ego got jammed in and it wouldn't change voltage. I pulled it out and now both buttons operate as the - button so I can only lower voltage. I can fiddle with it and it will work like it's supposed to but as soon as I let go it won't. After having to do surgery on the 2 twists I refuse to open this one up, even though the last operation was successful. Scared of what the electronics might look like inside and lots of things can go wrong trying to re-position that button.

How are you liking yours? I've actually decided having this and the twist is enough VV for now so I am going to return my SS vtube and get the new LT when it gets in.

I like my eGo units, they have been trouble free and dependable. That said they are used in rotation with about five other units and they just sit on a desk when not in use, their lives have been pretty easy. :)

I find any time a joye style ego battery is married to any kind of display its a disappointment. They tried LED's on the bottom, LCD battery displays, and color changing bands. They didnt catch on and pretty much are in clearance sections. I think its because the ego is a tride and true form factor. People can deal with a little dial on the bottom, but when you start adding screens and such - it scares them.
