Hey, it's movie quiz time! :D

I've got another theme-free quiz for you this week, featuring eight assorted, quality movies from various genres.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Good luck, and happy Friday!

As usual, I'll post the answers Sunday morning-ish.

    in a cave, eh?
Hm, I would have thought a relatively early performance from Bowie would be a giveaway. #7 I only watched 20 minutes of before I gave up on it. I think maybe it appeals more to chicks, especially given the title. #8, yeah that's the original although it kind of looks like it could come from Scary Movie or one of its ilk.

The only Bowie movie I remember is the Tony Scott one, and I don't think that's it :)

I kinda liked 8. In the theater, it gets kinda creepy. I even kinda liked the remake - of all the j-horror remakes, I thought it best captured the feel of the original... though the Korean Ring is a better overall film, and easily my favorite of the remakes. ...I think I already said this when Caff did the Ring :) What a dull conversationalist I turned out to be! :)

No, #5 is not The Hunger. :) As far as Korean horror goes, I hear good things about The Host, which I have yet to see. Then there's I Saw the Devil which was kind of interesting.
oooh, I really want to see I Saw the Devil!! :) Thanks for reminding me!

The Host is an entertaining mix of genres - not too scary though. I liked the Vengeance trilogy(not really horror)... Tale of Two Sisters was pretty good. There are others, but I gotta go - have to work tomorrow!

Not sure on 5 and 7... watched 8 again last night (I'm guessing it's the original?) :)
Yeah, it's the original. I never saw the American remake.

I watched The Host about a year ago or so. Maybe my expectations were too high or something, but I ended up not really caring for it. I mean, I suppose it was worth seeing, but I wouldn't really recommend it, and I definitely have no intentions of watching it again.

    **********

Anyway, sorry I'm so late with a hints post, but I've been out out all day running errands and doing winter-prep yardwork and whatnot.

So, here are some hints for you:

#1: The first cinematic installment adapted from the three-part series of blockbuster young-adult novels. The story is set in a non-specific, post-revolution, dystopian future in which token members of the resistance fighters' families are pitted against each other in a fight to the death for the televised entertainment of the ruling class.

#3: This one is a 2010 crime thriller, co-written and directed by Ben Affleck. He also plays one of the lead characters, a member of a group of friends and life-long thieves from Charlestown, MA.

#6: It's only fitting that Clive Barker's directorial debut is a film adaptation of one of his novels. The novel goes by a somewhat different name, though. The puzzle box artifact in the screenshot acts as a portal to the hellish realm of the Cenobites, whose devotion to extreme sadomasochism is beyond what the film's main characters could imagine.

#7: When you lunch on questionable Brazilian food at a sketchy restaurant, then go to at a top-notch bridal shop looking at gowns, beware that the gut-wrenching results of the food-poisoning may hit while you're trying on a gown from a top designer. "It's happening. It's happening. It's happening.... It happened." :D

    Hope these help!

Yeah, The Host is ok - certainly not great. But I think I'd recommend seeing it :)

More hints if you need 'em:

    1. First in a teen-lit series to make it to the big screen earlier this year, inspired by Battle Royale and not quite as girly as Twilight.
    2. "What are you going to do? Charge me with smoking?"
    3. Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner and two others rob a Boston bank. Following up, Ben winds up romancing the lady manager they took hostage.
    4. "All right, Striker, you listen, and listen close. Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle; it's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes."
    5. David Bowie is an alien who crash-lands on earth hoping to get water for his dying planet.
    6. Less frustrating than Rubik's Cube, winning unfortunately causes great pain and a trip to hell to meet Pinhead.
    7. Kristen Wiig is a disenfrachised jewelry story employee who really can't afford to be the maid of honor at Maya Rudolph's wedding (seen here taking an emergency dump after eating Brazilian food).
    8. Low-budget Japanese horror film that causes anyone encountering a cursed ghost to die and continue to spread the curse. There was an American remake starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Yeah, upon further reflection, I think my main problem with The Host really was that my expectations were too high. I remember seeing/hearing it favorably compared to Cloverfield, and since I really enjoyed Cloverfield, I believed I was in for a real treat with The Host.

Taste being what it is and all, I thought Cloverfield was orders of magnitude better than The Host.
