Happy Friday, guys!

I didn't have a theme in mind when I went scrounging for screenshots for this week's quiz, but I sort of ended up inadvertently selecting several death-related, (but not necessarily grim), images.

So, I've got a mostly theme-free movie quiz for you this week. :D

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Good luck!

As usual, I'll post the answers Sunday morning-ish.

Thanks, technovapir. Having once again dodged the full power of the storm, ending up with only an inch or so of snow, we're doing perfectly well. :)

Also, since we've got 55-60+ degree weather rolling in for the next few days, all traces of this most recent storm should be gone pretty quickly.

On topic: I can't imagine that you wouldn't recognize movie #5, if you looked at it closely. Of course, I suppose I could be wrong...

You know Caff, I recognize the actors in #5 but I don't think I've seen it. I could google to find it, but I'd rather wait for clues & make my brain figure it out.
#6 is really driving me nuts though. It looks familiar but I can't place it.

Glad to know you're doing well, the news people make it sound like the entire east coast is laid bare & covered in snow like a scene from "the day after" ....

Hints ahoy!

#1: In this scene, Chunk confesses everything to the menacing Fratellis, including the time he dumped fake puke off the balcony in a movie theater, soaking the patrons below. "Then all the people started getting sick, and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life!"

#4: That's not the Grim Reaper looking for those wicked, tricksy characters hiding below. It's a Ringwraith.

#5: Maybe this alternate screenshot would be more helpful:

#8: Russell Crowe plays a brilliant, but schizophrenic mathematician. He does secret work for the government in the field of cryptography, but his ever-increasing paranoia causes him to eventually totally lose his grip on reality.

Hope these help!

    in a cave, eh?
More hints if you need 'em:

    1. The kids try to save their parents homes from foreclosure by looking for the pirate treasure of One-eyed Willie in a classic Steven Spielberg adventure. They are led by Samwise Gangee, 3-year-old Timmy from the McDonald's commercial (whose namesake partner in crime died not a few years ago), Virginia Chance (Raising Hope) and Short Round. They are chased by ..... "the killer pimp" (Risky Business), Zippy the Pinhead's ......ed cousin Sloth and Mama (who had yet to be thrown from the train).

    2. Bill Murray is bored on a commercial assignment in Tokyo and spends his time with lonely newlywed Scarlett Johansson.
    3. Vikings with funny Scottish accents (Gerard Butler and Craig Ferguson) are trying to train young Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) in the art of hunting dragons with little success as he saves one with an injured tail in this 3D animated fantasy. That's a design for a prosthetic tail to help the dragon steer properly in the screencap.
    4. The first in an epic fantasy trilogy about a young man's journey to properly dispose of a magic "precioussss" with his short, fat-footed friends.
    5. The dudes, Wyld Stallyns, must journey through time again, this time with the help of Death, to thwart someone trying to alter the future by time-travelling to his past (their present time).
    6. Crusading knight Max Von Sydow challenges Death to a chess game to forestall his demise.
    7. A lovable loser, The Dude, is mistaken for a namesake rich millionaire whose wife owes some bad guys a large debt in this Coen Brothers comedy.
    8. Russell Crowe, a math prodigy, develops Game Theory and does some spy work on the side for the US defense department.

I hadn't seen The Seventh Seal until this past summer, myself. I knew of its reputation as a Bergman masterpiece, but frankly, I didn't quite perceive it that way. It's a really good and insightful allegory, with stellar cinematography and (mostly) high quality acting, but it never seemed to elevate itself to a level deserving of the term, "masterpiece," for me. Maybe I need to watch it again... I dunno....

Also, FWIW, my wife thought it was trite and fairly boring.

So, make of that what you will. :)

And yes, you should definitely see The Big Lebowski. :D
