Ready...

Steady...

QUIZZIFICATE! . :D

The thread will run its course for a week or so, and I'll bump it with hints and whatnot as needed. Answers will be posted when the time feels right.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Enjoy!

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Alrighty, time for some hints!

#1: In this movie, generally referred to as a “philosophical comedy,” Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman play a married couple who operate an Existential Detectives business. This unusual movie’s title is also noteworthy for using a symbol in place of one of its words.

#2: This 1977 Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker movie is part of a unique genre of anthology films that are comprised of a collection of (mostly) unrelated comedy sketches. The only similar movies I can think of would be 1974’s The Groove Tube and 1987’s Amazon Women on the Moon.

#3: This is arguably the first heavily Disney-influenced Pixar film. It’s a virtual fairy tale about rebellious Princess Merida, (center of the screenshot), and her fight against her mother’s (on the right in the screenshot… yes, the bear), compulsion to train her to become the Queen of a unified group of Scottish clans.

#4: Surprise, surprise, caffeinated uses yet another Coen brothers movie in one of his movie quizzes! In this quirky murder mystery, Billy Bob Thornton plays Ed Crane, an agreeable-to-a-fault barber who’s cheating wife is accused of a murder he committed. The victim, played by James Gandolfini, was killed by Ed in self-defense.

Hope these help!

Dang, there's lots of thread views, but not many replies.

Join in, lurkers! Post your answers! :)

In the meantime, here are the remaining hints:

#5 Jennifer Lawrence took home the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in this 2012 Best Picture-nominated romantic comedy. The movie’s main characters are dealing with their individual mental illness and marital issues, but ultimately find great support from each other.

#6 There is a contemporary TV series on A&E about the teenage years of the “mama’s boy” antagonist from this movie. The infamous motel where the murder in the screenshot takes place is also the name of the TV series.

#7 This martial arts action comedy is one of the all-time highest-grossing foreign language films in North America. In it, the fearsome Axe Gang learns not to mess with the impoverished residents of Pig Sty Alley. Then they learn again. And again. Ultimately, the gang enlists the aid of a legendary fighter called The Beast, who can only be defeated by The One, (no, not Keanu Reeves).

#8 Wealthy stock brokers Randolph and Mortimer Duke conduct a social experiment, and place a $1.00 bet on the outcome. They set out to drive a well-heeled employee of theirs into poverty and turn him to a life of crime, while simultaneously giving his job, home, and means to an impoverished criminal. Hilarity ensues. :D
