Illness kept me home from work today, but I wasn't exactly bed-ridden, so I took the opportunity to put the newest Movie Quiz together a little bit early.

I tried to include a good variety of films this week, and only used a couple of relatively obscure titles. I figure that between using several familiar faces, a couple of hit movies, and a couple of pivotal movie scenes, this week's quiz should be somewhat easy. But, I guess we'll see about that now, won't we? :D

And finally, a word to thread lurkers: PARTICIPATE!! .:)

Good luck, everybody!

*****

The thread will run its course for a week or so, and I'll bump it with hints and whatnot as needed. Answers will be posted when the time feels right.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles.

I recognize #5 as being a remake of one of my favorite Kurosawa movies, but the name of that remake escapes me.
Correct. :)

I'm somewhat ashamed to say I recognize #9, also. I only saw the movie once, but that is an iconic scene.
I'm pretty sure you mean #8, right?

The others are far too new or obscure for me to place.
I can understand that. But, while it's certainly possible that you haven't seen movie #1, it is neither new nor obscure.

Yeah -- I should know better than to post when the pain killers are starting to kick in.

But, while it's certainly possible that you haven't seen movie #1, it is neither new nor obscure.

"New" is relative. I'd guess that approximately 96.72% of all the movies I've seen are pre-1966. :)

Your Movie Quizzes are neat, though, because it is something of an event when I recognize a scene.

Time for some hints...

#1: Oliver Stone wrote and directed this 1986 Vietnam War film. Tom Berringer, (in the screenshot), plays one of the main characters, and smaller roles feature a number of young actors, including Johnny Depp, Kevin Dillon, and Forest Whitaker.

#2: John Cusack plays a record-store-owning music geek in this comedy/drama. He has trouble understanding women and relationships, and he spends much of this movie checking in on the lives of old girlfriends. And making "Top 5" lists.

#3: Yeah, it's this one again. :D . I've used different scenes from this movie in at least two or three previous Movie Quizzes... What can I say? It's one of my favorites! But that's just, like, my opinion, man. ;)

#4: It would probably be easier to name the title of this ill-conceived film if I used a picture of Elizabeth Mongomery, and told you that this was (sort of) a movie remake of her famous 1960s/1970s TV show. *tinka-tinka-tee*

Hope these help!

Just out of curiosity, bob, have you seen #7? After that movie sat in my Netflix queue for a couple of years, it finally made it to the top about a week ago. I watched it with my wife, and we really enjoyed it!

Without giving anything away, both in terms of the movie's plot and with respect to the Quiz, it's a fantastic brain-twister that left us scratching our heads and looking to re-watch it right away. So, we did. Then I ordered a Blu-Ray copy the other night so I can check it out yet again. :D

#7 has me totally baffled. I have no clue.
Well, based on info from IMDB and Wikipedia, it looks like the movie was not only a total box office bomb, (failing to recoup even a double-digit percentage of its production cost), but it never even got a theatrical release in the U.S. So, I'm not at all surprised if most folks are baffled by trying to identify #7 -- I only knew about it from a word of mouth recommendation.

Sshhh!! unless the game is over and done...
I'm still pondering! i WISH you hadnt posted the "clues" (give aways)
they made me say "Awww!" out loud.
1,....2,....3,.....4,.....5,....6,.....
is it time for me to toss in the towel on 7 &8 ??:toast:
Nope, the game's not over. I usually post a set of hints three or four days after putting up the quiz, then another set of hints two or three days after that. I know they're mostly "give away" clues, but when I used to post less-obvious hints, they didn't seem to really help most folks.

yes # 7 sounds Every Interesting...may I asked Is That Nicole kidman In Pic?
No, different movie, but in a way you're kind of close.
Unless you were asking if that's her in the screenshot for #4... Because yes, it is.
