Well, it's been a little while since the last movie quiz thread saw any action. So, maybe it's time for a new one?

MOVIE QUIZ AHOY! :D

Oh, and thread lurkers, your participation is appreciated! Just jump in and post your replies!

*****

The thread will run its course for a week or so, and I'll bump it with hints and whatnot as needed. Answers will be posted when the time feels right.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Enjoy!

Alrighty, here's your first set of hints:

#1: This screenshot is the "kill screen" that ends the movie, which is quite fitting, considering that it's a movie about arcade games and their characters.

#2: This 1992 release was Robert Rodriguez's first movie. It was made on a $7000 budget, and Rodriguez alone took on the responsibilities of writer, director, producer, editor, and camera man. The special effects department was made up of Rodriguez and the actor playing the movie's title character, (the guy in the screenshot). I don't know if this was the intention all along, but the movie ended up being the first in a trilogy.

#3: That's Bradley Cooper's eye in the screenshot. It's from a scene that takes place not long after he confesses to a little girl that he has a fear of hornets. Supernatural silliness abounds in this mostly mediocre horror-thriller, but it does have a couple of memorable moments.

#4: Christopher Walken: Tell me, Jerome, if a pi$$ drunk sergeant has a loaded .45 pointed at the head of a piece of dung that the pi$$ drunk sergeant hates and despises, how would you describe the situation?

Matthew Broderick: Delicate. Extremely delicate.

Hope these help! :)

Hints, clues, and possible spoilers...

#5: Rumor has it that, while playing an alcoholic Kris Kringle in this movie, Billy Bob Thornton actually was fairly drunk much of the time. And, frankly, he doesn't care if you've been naughty or nice.

#6: This Guy Ritchie film, (my favorite of his, BTW), features a number of recognizable faces. Among them, you'll find Brad Pitt as a mostly unintelligible British Pikey who can really take a beating.

#7: In this movie, George Clooney's directorial debut, we learn that the creator of The Newlywed Game, The Dating Game, and The Gong Show, (among several others), was also a covert assassin for the C.I.A.

#8: This movie is reminiscent of the whole "You guys wanna go see a dead body?" line that fueled much of the storyline in Stand By Me. But, in this film, one member of a group of friends murders another, and after parading past the corpse, they individually decided how to deal with it... or not deal with it.

As always, I hope at least some of you find these helpful! :)

Well, under normal circumstances this would be about the time I'd be putting up my Quiz Answers post. But, with the distraction of the impending holidays and all of the general hustle-n-bustle that creates for people, I'm going to delay making that post for little while and let the game play on.

In the meantime, let's see some more players posting! :)

I figured out 5 and 7 - thanks for the hints! So, are the movies worth watching?
Well, movie #5 is pretty risqué, and definitely crosses the line of good taste in several scenes, so I don't think I'd could give it a broad recommendation. Personally, I thought it was a riot. :D

Movie #7 also has its moments, and is certainly not a movie for kids. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, though, I found it to be surprisingly good. Plus, with Sam Rockwell in the lead role, you know you're gonna see a good performance.

Since you like #6, I'll look it up. Starting tonight, I'm off work until January 14th. :)
I am so jealous of your vacation! I hope you enjoy the movie!

Thanks for holding off on the quiz answers. This is my first free night in days.
Yeah, I've come to expect that the Quiz thread won't get a ton of replies, but it seemed like even the view numbers were way down this week, so I decided to just let it ride for a while.

We will be watching 5, 6, and 7. I'm off as new classes don't start until the 14th. I love winter breaks!!! My husband took vacation beginning Jan 1 - 3 and 6 10. We have a few projects to work on in the house, but other than that, we plan to watch a lot of movies.

It is definitely quieter than usual this week. I'm sure that people are busy shopping, etc. Not us - I pretty much order everything online!
