For myself, I wouldn't say regressing as much as I would say happy with where I'm at. I made it to the regulated mod stage, got a few Kayfuns, rebuilding a few ProTanks and buying some IClear 30s coils. My most recent foray was into DIY liquid, which has been very fun and rewarding. It's nice for the moment to not to be anxious about getting something better or new. My credit cards like that too...

so the general course of a vaper's vaping life goes like: cigalike ---> ego ---> VV/VW device ---> mech mod ---> RBA ---> RDA. (not saying anyone does this but this is the way most people go through their vaping journey) has anyone gone in the opposite direction? i similarly went through this chronological journey, and sort of stalled out when i got to a turtleship v2 with an omega RDA. the past couple days i have put all my expensive vape gear aside and been very happy vaping a basic setup. ego twist 1600 may with an aerotank mini. now of course i know there is nothing wrong with this if it keeps me off analogs and makes me happy but has anyone else sort of regressed in vaping like this besides me? just thought it was kinda interesting that i suddenly craved my old starter kit setup

An eGo Twist isn't Basic IMHO. It is maybe one step down, as far as battery life, from a bigger VV/VW device and using a clearomizer tank of any type isn't really any different than using a Kayfun.

Having said that I do still use the Halo Cig A Like system I started with every day (Actually I started with Blu and gave that away to someone that uses the batteries for something else). It is more convenient than having a Provari or Vamo or an eGo style battery and tank in my pocket.

So yes I go the other way many times during the day. I'm vaping on one right now as my fingers hunt and peck across my keyboard. Can't do that with those other vaporizers.

Then moved to the Ego-X (2nd generation), and was quite happy with it for five years. Of course, had already done some research on mods, felt somewhat curious about them, but never to the point of buying one. My little Ego was more than enough for me.

Lately, things started getting hairy in Europe:
First, the failed medicalization attempt on the last October.
Then, the new european TPD with all those irrational bans on 2nd and 3rd generation devices.

That's what made me decide to buy mods and start researching some DIY: I wanted to stop being dependant on batteries and non-rebuildable atomizers made specifically for vaping and instead, start using generic rechargeable batteries and kanthal wire, which will be much more difficult to ban - if possible at all.

Of course, later I discovered the best vape provided by mechs, and that rebuilding can actually become an "hobby"... but the main thing is, I was kind of FORCED by unfortunate circunstances (the irrational war on e-cigs) to move on. Most people make that change because they feel unhappy about the device they're presently using. It was definitely NOT my case.

Same here. I am also in Europe, affected by the same nonsense.

I have been vaping for 2.5 years now. Started with eGos, went on to IMIST, Vivi Nova and EVOD. Still use the IMIST sometimes (to go out, it is small and pretty and comes in colors), the Vivi and the EVOD. I am perfectly happy with the vapor produced and the easy handling. - Exchangeable atomizer heads, some dryburn on the vivis, no hassle, no bother, changed quickly, and I am good to go. I use all those attys on VV eGo type batteries, stainless steel but also pretty colors.

I do have some VV mods (genny penny, lavatube mini, VMax and Evic) - the main reason for 3 of them was the longer lasting battery life. The lavatube mini is a pain in the neck, gotta change that stupid little 18350 battery all the time. So I hardly use it. But the others are just fine.

I will also be FORCED to mess with rebuildables to be on the safe side before that restrictive EU regulation sets in. I am not happy about the idea at all. I will get some (physical) help in Germany in late June, and a wonderful person has offered to help me along here on ECF as well.

If it were not for sheer necessity, I would never mess with rebuildables, wires, string, cotton, ohm meters and whatever. :(

I am a lady. I have small hands. :) I go for things that are both useful and nice looking, provide easy handling and serve my purpose.
In real life, I drive a Volkswagen Golf car. I have no desire to purchase an oldtimer whose engine I must repair myself. Not the least desire whatsoever. The Golf is just fine. It serves my purpose and it looks nice.

I did start to DYI about 1 year after I started vaping. Hey, I am a lady, I can cook and I can bake :) - So after a little reading, DYI came quite easy to me. It saves money, it does not take long, and it makes one independent. Nice thing. :)

All in all, I would say:
Different strokes for different folks. And whatever works for an individual, whatever that individual is happy with - that is precisely the correct thing :)

I wouldn't say I was "going backwards" exactly, but there are many times when I do prefer simplicity.

For instance, I find myself using the IGO-L and the Omega in single coil mode much more frequently than the drippers that require multiple coils and lots of fiddling with air holes. I make super-simple macro coils now, and don't have much interest in twisting wire or getting ultra fancy most of the time.

I'm looking for a new mod, and can't seem to find anything new that's actually plain. New devices seem to have bigger and bigger logos - which, frankly, seems a bit tacky to me - and half the new mods are the size of beer cans. Not my cup of tea at all.

So yeah. I think it's great that the vaping market is full of innovations, but I myself no longer feel compelled to try every new thing the instant it arrives on the shelves.

:)

I think of it as adding another arrow to the quill. Each time I pick up something new, I load it up and its there, along with everything else through the day. If I'm craving a nice tobacco, I've got one sitting around with that. Same with something minty. If I'm heading out, always have some egos/T3s ready to go. Been vaping this , warm low ohm Fogger/mech mod for a while, think I'll switch it up and hit on my kayfun/MVP for a bit.
Just need to make sure I'm charging something up. Come to think of it, my electricity bill has increased lately.....hmmm.

What ever device makes you happy, then go for it! It's not ford or back ward it's just what you like! I like my MVP2 but today my new goodie will arrive my hanna clone , hope I like it? I say what ever makes you comfortable and happy is what you should vape! Just stay off smoking in the process and your successful! Just enjoy and be happy! What ever a person chooses is fine as long as they are safe and happy.

They all serve a warm welcome in my arsenal. The mech and RBA for self reliance... So easy to repair! ... the ego twist for comfort while out or when it's cold. The vv/vw for pure adjustability no matter the atty.
Like others have said, there are no steps backwards. They all serve a place.
The ready made coils are a breeze to grab and go (bring some spares due to duds), the RBA is easy to fix or rebuild (bring some reading glasses & rebuilt kit which takes no more room than all those spare premade a to replace the duds).
Self reliance vs vendor reliance. They're both good, both needed.

I have stayed with the MVP because it just gets it done big time and when i read the last response from a thread in the "ask the veterans " forum it just justified sticking with the MVP even more.

Doesn't appear the link is working but this is what was said:

IMHO, the MVP is very close to a ProVari in vape quality.

Now thats a serious statement since your comparing a device that you can buy for under forty to a device that costs close to FIVE times it's price.

I went cig-alike>> Spinner/Aspire BDC>> MVP/IClear 30B>> Back to Spinner/BDC.

I just didn't get anything out of the MVP in terms of vape quality that I didn't get with the Spinner. I really only vape at night in my home so I don't really need super amazing battery life. And while the MVP is slick, it's big enough that my wife mocks me like crazy. She says it looks like an old Ericsson Cell phone. It's especially funny when she picks it up nd says "hello? Hello?" into it.

The spinner is a great solution for me. I did, though, just pick up a Kayfun Mini clone from Fastech. So we'll see how that goes.

Actually it occurred to me that the way the media keeps lying and badmouthing vaping, that we'd have to resort to buying cigarette wraps for our PVs - "LOOK! CRIMINAL! SHE'S VAPING!" Oh! Wait! No she's smoking. Oh, that's alright then.

OK . so the provari would be a really big cigarette..wonder if I should buy a cigar wrap instead....

Great post Hulamoon. Sad isn't it ...

Someone said this will be the first time a black market has developed so people can get rid of addiction and live healthier lives. That pops into my mind a lot these days

This is a very enjoyable thread to read, as this subject has often crossed my mind, not so much in terms of going "backwards," but finding the right kit to buy, (or comfortable level to stay at), without going too far and wasting money.

I have resisted the urge to "move forward" and have stuck at the MVP/Spinner/evod/PTII level, (though I'm rebuilding my own coils). But with possible regulation in the future, it may be the case that we all may need to go down the 'Mech Mod' route in the days to come, though I doubt that very much! But it is the safe option, and boy do they look nice.

At the end of the day, the liquid is, IMO, the most important part in vaping. Getting a good/right wick is second I'd say. The third is the battery and whether it is regulated or not. At the end of the scale, different ohms, setting volts/watts is the tweaking and where the hobby side kicks in, (all which can make a huge difference). Others may disagree, but in general, this is how I see it. So a step back is not really a step back, as long as the liquid is good and the EV is producing a good vape, it's all vaping to me.

Many roads to the OP's question. But a very good question.

I'm glad you posted this typical vaper chronology, especially since I don't think I fit the typical vape timeline. I quit smoking some 20 years ago, but when I had a desire to smoke again in recent months, I decided to do a little research to find a healthier alternative. After looking around at the options for electronic smoking devices, I settled on an ego style setup kit & quickly added a couple of variable voltage batteries to my arsenal along with a few styles of tanks.

I agree with the member who said that the right ejuice is critical in being successful at sticking with vaping. I've tried a number of liquids that I can't tolerate. If I hadn't found a few liquids that agree with my olfactory senses, there is no way I would have stuck with it. Only 2 months in, I managed to make it through a week long bout of vapor's tongue.

At this point, I don't see myself progressing to the box-style mod, but you never know. I can't help but wonder if vape devices will change in looks quite a bit in the next 10-20 years, becoming smaller & more attractive. A lot of what I see out there now does not appeal to me aesthetically, & I wonder if styles will evolve in the same way phones & computers have changed.

I'm certainly not a veteran, but IMO this statement is very true. I'm not a MVP owner, but I do have a Provari. With my comparison two different devices performed in the same conditions (juice, battery, atomizer) will yield the same performance more or less. The real difference in vape quality comes from the atomizer. I'm not quite sure if my statement applies to the mech scene, but for the regulated mods it certainly does.

Back on subject. I've seriously been considering the switch back to an Ego w/ a Mini Protank II again. Back when I first started my only issues were battery life and tank flooding. I'm not complaining but it was just so much simpler. I borrowed a friends ego for a day and it was so small that I forgot I had it in my pocket. It makes a Provari mini feel like a giant dildo in my pocket lol.

The topic heading fits me to a T. :)

I started out with Ego Twists which had just hit the shelves back in July 2012.....moved on to Provari, then switched to bottom feeders (vmods, bogger box, then REOs).......and several devices in between.

And now, I'm vaping with low tech Ego upgrade batt and an eRoll kit  Mostly because I'm down to 3mg nic now and hardly vaping much these days (which was my goal). So the little stuff works fine for me and less bulk and such.

I pray nothing wonderful hits the market, I reallly don't want to "gear up" again LOL
