Hey everyone I was just reading a thread titled committed to quitting smoking & some of the comments I could really identify with. Kind of a support & understanding I haven't seen before. I'm hitting that point where you light up & think about how you'd rather have a vape. Sometimes my brain gets in the way though. Anyways I didn't want to thread jack but it brought up a couple questions. Anyone else feel like if it's been a long time you need a "real" smoke or that you don't want to take the chance of not being able to fall asleep?

Hi
I have been vaping for close to 2 years now. I used to smoke about 30 cigarettes a day. About 6 months in I felt like I needed a real cigarette. Well, I took one of my wife's cigarettes and tried it. All I did was take 2 puffs and put it out. What I found out was it tasted really bad and did not like it at all, and I used to love to smoke. I needed to find out if I was really over the smoking habit and found out that I really am over it and really happy.

Hey. I'm not sure where you are at in your switching at this point. Keep in mind that there is no rule book for how to do this. No one from the ACS is going to whack you upside the head for having a cigarette here.

It took me three months to taper off from a 2 PAD habit to completely quitting. Some people can do it day one when they start vaping. The point is: you get to figure out how to do it for yourself. Things like "pick a quit date!" are always miserable fails if you try to follow conventional quit smoking rules. So don't put old pressures on yourself - doing it this way is very different.

Most of us start out doing both. Really fast you just start vaping more and smoking less. It might be those last few per day that are the toughest to let go of. Don't sweat it - it will happen. The longer you vape chances are the more gross the smoking is going to be. (Happens to most of us like that.) So that helps without even having to do anything. Then you just have to figure out what the triggers or issues are around letting go of the last few. Want that first one in the morning? Try chain vaping or a high nic level in the morning. Things like that.

In other words: You are NORMAL! lol - just like the rest of us. As long as you have a genuine desire to quit smoking you can figure out how to do it with vaping. Come here and vent, rant or just ask questions - that helps too.

If you vape you'll smoke less. If you don't stop vaping eventually you will stop smoking. I was a dual user for 6 weeks. A brother of mine took 10 months. Don't worry about quitting smoking, just start vaping and see what happens.

I am now at the point where even the smell of an analog disgust me but it took a while to get there. I dual used until my body and mind realized it could get "the stuff" from the vape. I would go as long as I felt comfortable, then light up. The time kept getting longer until one day I was smoking a but and I found myself reaching for the vape. That was the day I put out my last smoke!

Best of luck to you and keep up the good fight.

I think a large part of vaping for beginners is getting the nicotine levels right, without this you may fall back to smoking easily. Our bodies absorb nicotine by vaping quite differently and generally slower. When I first started vaping about 4-weeks ago I thought 'I smoke 12mg rollies' I should be fine with 12mg nicotine levels. This was not the case, I was withdrawing from smokes hard and chain vaping without much satisfaction and at that time I really did feel the need for a smoke.

I did a little research through google, (there's a lot and mixed) and came to the conclusion I really need to be up around 18mg or even 24mg. As time passed I have adjusted to 18mg and feel fine. I tootle puff 18mg and sub-ohm 6mg, so this needs to be taken into consideration as well. The intake, tank you're using, the coil ohms and wattage.

I have not felt the need for a real smoke since playing with my nicotine levels so be sure to look into it. If you're feeling cravings maybe best to up your nicotine level in the liquid.

Thanks for all the replies. I was close to a pack a day for about 20 years. After about 2 months I'm around 1/3 pack & vaping at least once in between each one. I started vaping 6mg at .25 ohms & 60-70 watts. I was getting a reflux feeling & everyone I talked to said to go to 3. That seems to work for me. Currently I've upped the wattage on that one to 80 & bought a smaller setup for portability & so I can run 2 flavors at once. Alternating juices really helps & makes me eager to have the next one. I think it's really the things like quit date or setting quotas that have had me going backwards in the past.
