Mr. Mom needs a kick away from the puff or pinch

Hiya all you wonderful ECF people! I'm very glad i found this community :)

An old friend who quit tobacco products with vaping recently sparked our interest and we are very excited to try this.

I need some help deciding where to start but, i'll give you a little background first.

The wife and i have smoked on and off for 20 years.
The wife smokes Parliaments and only really quit when pregnant or breast feeding.
I smoke Reds, Camels, or American Spirits, the times I 'quit' smoking i was using Kodiak ( guess i'm much more of a nic-fiend than i'll admit)

We have 4 kids under 5 and take care of 90 y.o. grandma with parkinsons and dementia.
During the day i'm Mr. Mom, when the wife comes home I work in my cave (programming) until 1 or 2am.
She is a teacher by day and Mom at night.

4 kids + grandma + jobs = stress.

A few puffs on a cig or a pinch of chew seems to ease the nerves a bit during the day. I've tried all sorts of things, but a puff or a pinch gives some immediate relief without making me brain-dead or spacey like some other things might. During the day it's hard to sneak out for a smoke, and honestly we have both tried to quit and hide it from the kids (not an example we want to set). We both get very... testy when we try and quit and being testy is not a good option with little children. We've tried patches, gum, herbs, yoga, etc... but old habits die REAL hard for us I guess ( or maybe it's the act of smoking. Who knows?).

The wife and I need to quit, both for physical, financial, and 'role model' reasons.

We have agreed that we'll do the ecig thing for 30 days together and see how that goes. Hopefully stepping down the nic content as we go and be nic free by christmas.

I have done ( probably ) too much reading and am at the point of information overload or option anxiety or analysis paralysis or whatever you want to call it. So many options it gets confusing. Cart vs Carto vs drip, big battery vs PCC, 510 vs 808 vs blah blah blah, branded vs non-branded, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention there's so many places out there selling what appears to be the same basic thing in a wide range of prices.

I am asking the help of this wonderfully rich community I have found here.

What I'm looking for is recommendations for both of us.

  1. I want:
    • strong (flavor, TH, and probably nic content for now)
    • lasts long ( don't need to charge all the time or have loads of extra batteries )
    • don't have to futz with too much if i don't have time. ( I'm a tinkerer, when i have time to tinker I will )
    - thinking eGo-T or maybe a well hitting pass-through since I don't leave the house much.

  2. She wants:
    • simple
    • can take to work, grab a few puffs, or take 10 to have a 'full cigarette break'
    • can be used for at least an hour when she goes to her cave for her 'shows'.
    - thinking Volt with PCC, or as she says 'that Modern Vapor thing James was using' ( Lux i think).

I've gathered from everything I've read and watched that we will experiment with other things as a part of the learning process and vaping lifestyle, I am expecting that now.
I just need that little kick to know that we are both going to start off on solid ground and have a good foundation for vaping at least the next 30 days.

Thank you for your time, apologies for the rambling, and I look forward all of your recommendations

The volt I would highly reccommend if extended battery life isn't an issue. I take two Volts to work with me on a daily basis and they get me through the day no problem. Really good unit.

I would, if possible, steer away from the Ego-T. They're ok systems but not the most leak free or problem free. If they work for you they really work, but you need some luck and trial and error. The ego itself (the batteries) will last upwards of 6 hours roughly so that's the sort of battery you're looking for.

Instead of the tank atomisers, try out cartomisers. There is a EMDDC ego mega dual coil cartomiser from madvapes which holds 2ml ish liquid at a time. Really sturdy thing that's going to keep wicking and have flavour. Only problem is lack of heat with the size of it but the tanks have the same problem and lack serious flavour. Smaller cartomisers at 2.5ohm will be more heat and good flavour. Just need to bring more with you.

Eh... just anything but an EgoT. An Ego, YES, but seriously, anything but egoT. That coming from an EgoT user should say a little lol

If you got time to yourself, maybe use a standard 510 atomiser with a drip tip and drip it. It's possibly the most flavourful way to vape. But if you need portability, use some cartomisers or do both.

Whatever works for you, just a heads up on EgoT's. Good luck my man!

Hello unstoppable and welcome to ECF.

I think leftfeild's advice on the Ego tank is good. Maybe later on you can try a tank, but for now stick with something that has more than a 50% track record.

I suggest a standard Ego, with some Boge 2.0 ohm cartomizers. Order a box of 5 for each kit to start with.

The Riva 510 is basically the same as an Ego, and just a bit less expensive.

2 kits, one for you and one for your wife. Liberty-flights has good prices and excellent service.

Cignot is a great vendor also, but maybe a little more expensive.

For juices tho, look at Backwoods Brew, Freedomsmokeusa, and Vapor Station. Start with some small (3ml or 5ml) samples of 18 and 24mg nicotine, til you find the ones you like.

For strong flavor and TH, try the Backwoods Brew Backo, Casablanca, or Virginia.

At Vapor station, Frisco, Tampa, or Tennesse.

Freedomsmokeusa, try the Camtel, Rocking Chair, Maxblend, and Wyatt Earp.

Now you have a place to start. Good luck to you and yours.

I'm using an ego mega dual coil right now and its great it actually holds about 4ml and is enough for me to vape all day and most of the night, no leaks and very convenient. you can get an ego kit with 1 reg battery and 1 passthru and have the best of both worlds. also reccomend the vapor room , tasty vapor, and mrs t bakery for juice
check out Joye eGo-T 1000mAh Type-B MEGA USB Starter Kit (Black) [Joye eGo-T] - $79.99 : GoodEjuice.com, Cheap Electronic Cigarette Kits, eJuice And Accessories. you dont need to use the tanks but you will have them later to use or sell in the classifieds

Hello
Welcome. I am a new member myself.I wanted to say I have been very happy with my Riva 501 .Good vapor, not too large, smooth draw and plenty of battery life with a 750ma battery. I vape Liberity-Flights red 18mg.It is not overly strong and reminds me of the first puff off a Marlboro red. After the first puff of the analog marlboro it's taste is down hill. The ecig remains constant on flavor until the cart starts to get dry. I would recomend a bigger cart or cartomizer than what it come with as I find myself topping off after 10 or 12 good hits.

Just hang tight and some of the regulars will be around to help shortly.I am only into to this a week myself.I have some cartomizers on order from crystal clear vaping that hold 2 mil of juice called the reserector. Can't wait as topping off the carts I have is messy. Some one else can make a recommendation for your wife as the NJoy brand e-cig I have has a strange flavor and limited battery life plus it taste nothing like a real cig.

Good luck to you and bless you as you have a hand full !See as I was typing you got 3 other posts.:vapor:

Don't start with disposable or kr808 cause u will eventually waste the money on them. I use e-go's,egoT is best, not for the cartridge but the batteries. I fill my own carto's cause u don't waste as much and they last all day, the dualies are best. Other than that, you have to find juices to your liking. I like Vermillion vaper for their Kentucky Blend or my freedom smoke for their cream and virgin vapor cause it's organic.
Welcome to ECF, keeps you informed on everything e-cig!:2cool:

My wife and I were in a similar boat, except that it was 10 years ago and vaping wasn't and option. Nothing worked for us, so we kept smoking outside. Roll forward to April of this year, and we became vapers - 5 months running in 7 more days.

We started with a few sets of 510 "disposables" and a few boxes of pre-filled cartomizers in menthol, some chargers and a small cigarette case for my wife's purse. Bought from bestecig in China, partially because they had pre-filled cartos that were brown and looked like cigarettes.

After a couple months and more ECF time, we ended up using eGo's with cartomizers which we fill and refilll many times, always carrying a spare carto or 5ml bottle as well as at least one backup 510 or eGo battery. Some nights I drip flavors on an atomizer, and we have added a bunch of sample juices and DIY flavors through watching ECF for deals. My daily vape is Halo Menthol Ice, while my wife uses a wintergreen I make up myself. We keep drip tips on the carto's so refilling, or "topping off" is easier.

My wife has a case with a 510 setup with her all the time as both her backup and to switch to when in a smoking social setting - it's just more comfortable with smoking friends to have and analog look, and they still hit well. No PCC, just an extra battery and carto, a 5ml bottle of wintergreen, a car charger and a usb charger. I carry and extra eGo battery when in doubt as well as a small bottle of juice for refill. I did end up buying a box mod and although it's fun, most mods are for at home and not convenient for your lifestyles - can't leave them laying out on a table!

There's a bit of elitism here on ECF about who's got the coolest/prettiest/most expensive device, but I think the vast majority of vapers are using small 510 style or eGo style pv's. It seems that 510 threading is the most common and a developing standard, so I'd stick with that for flexibility.

In summary, 510's with cartos make for an easy initial transition and will also serve you well in social and backup situations. so it's a good start. Ego's will give you a much longer life and would be good to add early, at least one. Buy a sampler from a couple of the juice vendors to find what you like, then get a couple bigger bottles.

It appears that most successful vapers have one weak spot - running out and smoking because of no alternative. I always have backups to prevent that edgy scramble for a smoke. You are in an area that has some nearby storefronts, so get to know them and you'll be better prepared for that moment of crisis without the multi-day wait shipping involves.

I hope this helps and that you both succeed! Even if you just smoke less, it's a win! Keep asking ECF members for ideas and help, and watch your budget! Your family will love that you're available more without being edgy, and you'll smell good too!

I would consider a Titan 510 (rebranded Joyee 510) for your wife and a tornado 510 (rebranded eGo 510) for yourself. Both are on sale now with 35% off from totally wicked (be quick though, I think it's only till the end of the week.) By getting these, you'll have a wealth of interchangeable options between your and your wife. Both the Titan and tornado come with two batteries, atomisers and pre filled carts to get you started. I'd quickly recommend switching out the cartridges to cartomizers or fluxomizers (after you've vaped the pre fills obviously!). Get yourself some strong juices, maybe 24mg stuff, tobacco flavours. TW tobacco and malboro are pretty good.

From I've read backwards brew do exceptional tobacco based juices and some if the freedom smoke USA bases are popular too. I personally rather like some of the Chinese tobaccos and would recommend a strong RY4 Dekang liquid from health cabin or the milder but very tasty Janty RY4.

I agree with 440426. Ya gotta have spares and ya gotta have them with you. That includes juice, chargers, batteries, everything. So, whatever you get when you start will likely become your spare once you know what you want to improve. I like to try a lot of mods some homemade. I have a small case that contains two eGo batts (one regular, one passthrough), a spare 510 atomizer, a 510 carto, a drip tip,a tank atomizer, a full tank, a USB cord for the passthrough, and two 6 ml bottles of juice. That sounds like a lot but, it's about the size of a glasses case. My job requires that I have a laptop with me pretty much all the time. So, it's in with that. That way if I lose my setup, I have something to vape.

I would agree with everyone else on skipping the Ego-T and going for the Standard Ego - 650 mAh or the 1000 mAh passthrough with cartos. (I am an owner/previous user of the Tank). They say the 650's last 5-6 hours but I usually got 8-10 hours out of them (3ml a day). Haven't run the 1000 dry yet - I work 12 hour shifts sometimes.

I would recommend an ego with a couple of 1000mah batteries . For capacity I would recommend an echo bottom coil cartomizer . I have heard that some vendors are not recommending dual coil cartomizers like the ego mega dual coil cartomizer because the current draw and the heat is not good for the ego switch and electronics . Also for capacity you can try a ce2 rev 4 or 5 . I like to use stainless steel myself I don't trust clear tubes to not come off or crack . Remove the end cap and put on a drip tip that feels better to me . Plastic or delrin drip tips work best for me SS or aluminium seem to irritate my lips .

I agree that the Ego-T tends to leak and stuff, but it's really not that bad. I'd pick the Ego-T over cartomizers any day of the week. In my experience, cartomizers are only good for the first couple puffs. Sure, you can refill them a couple times... but meh. I use an Ego-T AND a 510-T with an Ego battery. The 510-T rocks. It has all of the good things about the Ego-T without any of the bad stuff (it doesn't leak, I don't get any dry hits, etc.). The only problem is that you have to refill the tanks more often (they only come in 0.5 ml and 0.7 ml sizes).

Im going to copy/paste a bit from another post I just made:

Ill give a list of everything you'll need for a great and affordable setup.

From liberty-flights.com (click 20% discount in upper left):
Riva lite kit - 29.99
A 510 driptip of your choosing - ~$2
5 Pack of Boge LR (2.0 ohm) cartomizers - $7.99

All you need then is juice, I personally recommend pinkspotvapors.com (pink spot is excellent and tastes like pink lemonade, their dutch apple pie is the only apple pie I've found that tastes like *baked* apples, not fake apple). I've liked just about everything from them.

If you like menthol in your juice rawrvapor.com seems to specialize in it, great juice overall. Their default selection for menthol is a medium menthol, and they really do suggest menthol in their juice. Id recommend trying the Hawaii Sunrise.

If you like the Boge LR (2.0 ohm) cartomizers, you can get 15 of them for $20 and free shipping @ crystalclearvaping.com

This setup allows you to try dripping and cartomizers, it includes cartridges in the Riva kit but cartridges suck.

The Riva is an ego style battery that runs @ 3.7v rather than the egos 3.2, it is also 750mah. The general conversion is 100mah = 1 hour of vaping, so each one should last ~7.5hrs and the kit includes two.

Thanks a ton Reprisal. I got everything you suggested & 10 little bottles of juice to play with.

Woke up today to find my kit from LF waiting for me.

Charged up one battery fully and we've been experimenting for a bit now.

I'm digging menthol/mint with drip.
She wasn't all to excited about it until she tasted the apple. So we loaded one of the LR cartos with apple and she vaped herself into a headache lol.

Again. Thanks for the setup, exactly what I was looking for, a strong foundation to build on.
