I, sadly, have to admit defeat. I just can't make it happen. I've tried no less than 15 times, and it either knots up on me, breaks, or, in the rare case that I do manage to get a rough, gross approximation, it's WAY too thick to fit into my RM 2. I give up, but I really want to try it. Would any of you kind folk be interested in selling me a length, maybe for Dogecoin?

Yeah. It definitely won't fit without opening the post holes. I drilled mine to 1/16th to fit it.

I found the Mundy's frustrating. I eventually got making it down, but the wire ends up being remarkably flimsy for such a thick structure. I deformed and messed up a bunch of coils quickly. For the time put into making it, I was frustrated by having to redo it so soon.

The first time I tried it, I did manage, somehow, to get it through the RM2 holes. I think I pinched the tips with pliers. Sometimes that makes them fray, sometimes it works. The second time, I got it to hold under the screw heads instead of through the holes. Soon after, tho, I did drill out. Most of the time I make it, it comes out to 1mm diameter. I drilled my holes out to 1.2mm (3/64" might suffice). I roughly shape the coil and gently torch it. After that it is really pliable and has good plasticity (stays where you put it). It's all I vape anymore.

Or any you'd be willing to part with? I'd drill out the posts on an old RM I have lying about in order to try it. Like I said, I'd be happy to let some Doge go in return. Or maybe even some dollars if you would prefer to take the boring route.

dibster recently told me that they be easily drilled out by hand.

as soon as i can find my eyeglasses and then my pin vise, mama gonna try that...

I just left the posts in the RM2 and drilled it freehand with a 1/16th bit. I drilled the front then the back of each post and it was pretty easy. I can also still tighten down single 30awg, so it hasnt affected the RM2 at all.

Tony, were you saying that you were having a hard time making the wire itself, or that you had it made but couldnt get it in the posts? One thing that you Have to do when making this wire is to let the tension out of the wire when twisting it. For the initial twist, I let my vice grips just hang and I spin for 15 - 25 sec and then I let it uncoil, repeat 3 or 4 times especially at the end when your done before you remove tension. Then with the 3 strands counter twisted I actually hold the wire in the vicegrips horizontally and a put a lot of tension on the three strands while counter twisting. every 10sec I let the vicegrips hang vertically and let it uncoil, and repeat. Thats all there is too it.

When making the actual coil, there is a lot of spring back in this wire, so I found that I can wrap it on my 0.055" jig then while I still have tension on the coil I take a torch to it and there will be no spring back and it will hold form very well.

You got pics?

Well, both really. I just can't keep it from, as the man said, 'boogering up'. I try to be very careful about releasing tension and letting it unwind frequently, but it still develops a defect and runs on me every time. I also have the problem with the posts, but I do have an RM that I don't mind drilling, as well as a handy dandy pin vise. So that part's no issue, it's just the actually making/obtaining the wire that I need help with.

Instead of using a long wire to twist and cut it into thirds, try twisting 3 shorter wires, like 1ft, and then counter twisting those. That may be easiest. The wire breaks on me sometimes as well but it never boogers up, i just put it right back in the chuck and continue on. When letting the tension out dont let it spin so fast.

only on eBay which is a pity. i cadged some from Monkey and it's pretty good - it really depends on who you believe. I find R41 a dog to work with but a lot easier to thread thru fingers (damn stuff sticks me every time), post holes and so on.

The MM folks swear by it for flavour and i'm not in a hurry to disagree with them. My sorry attempt at a coil with it lasted over 2 weeks and that's good going.

If you can master making it yourself - wtg!

One of these days* I'm going to make some R41 ribbon and twist it up.
I think that would be even better than the twisted Kanthal.

* just like I'm going to finish the supercharged injected VW bug in the garage, the low voltage atty, etc. etc. when I have time LOL!

with b&ms charging up to $10 to wrap what they think is a micro coil, if ya play your cards right, ya should be able to retire in a week or two :)
