Vaping misinformation and 'poor science' are putting off smokers from giving up
A "wave of misinformation" surrounding vaping is putting smokers off giving up and moving to e-cigarettes in a bid to quit the habit, a leading academic has warned.
...despite the fact that anyone making the switch would "significantly" reduce their cancer risk, too many people are being put off by "poor science".
Vesuvius study comparing the cardiovascular effects of smoking and vaping, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, found cigarette smokers who switch to nicotine containing vaporisers could significantly improve their vascular health within four weeks.
“Switching to vaping removes practically all further cancer risks from continuing smoking, but due to the wave of misinformation, some smokers may have been put off switching to vaping thinking that this does not reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. This study is important in correcting this and hopefully encouraging more smokers who cannot or do not want to stop using nicotine to switch to the much less risky alternative.”
...the consequence of this "panic" is that people will go back to smoking and die as a result.
“It is crucial to emphasise that e-cigarettes are not safe, just less harmful than tobacco ...
...non-smokers should not start. However, people who smoke should consider switching.”
