Sorry for your loss Fear :(
Kind of felt weird to like your post but I figure you'd know the context...

I've had 3 friends hurt 2 seriously injured in the past few years, 1 we weren't sure if he was going to make it, both had long recoveries. These were skilled riders, fellow road captains...

I had a couple close-calls two Monday mornings in a row, one resulted in me being driven off the road into the grass and the second time I narrowly missed T-boning the side of some ..... that decided to make a U-turn from the right lane, couldn't believe what was unfolding right in front of me, decided that day that I'm done riding...

Good mornin' Cheryl :)

My 06 Ultra will be for sale here pretty quick, it's pretty much sat this past year other than the occasional ride. Use to ride it daily, rain or shine, the bike has seen some long rides, been to Sturgis, rode in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and almost all of Texas. Unfortunately it's got to the point of sharing the road with far too many idiots...

This is why I stopped riding regularly.

Mine is up for sale, I might get one more ride in, night not. I have not done more than start it up and go around the block since March of last year.

My "best friend ever" was a great guy. We knew each other from the age of 3 and had maintained a friendship for 45 years. He had never had an accident, was a great rider, careful, safe, always wore a helmet, rode daily. Father of 3 girls from ages 9 to 15. He was T-boned on his way to work by a guy drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette and talking on the cell phone. The guy ran a stop sign while traveling at 60 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Happened March of last year. The guy said he never saw him... Needless to say my friend died instantly.

I can enjoy the Texas Hillcountry from my truck almost as well as on a bike. At least I have airbags around me in the truck.

I can't "like" your post. But I hear ya. And that's why I stopped riding.

Cell phone + car driver = dead biker.

Yeah people are getting more and more negligent with driving as the modern distractions keep growing in number. There are also more and more people. I had a lot of fun on my bikes over the years. I am ok with not riding anymore.
With the back problems that come from a life in the trades it is getting harder and harder to ride for more than a few hours anyways. :)

A few of my friends were trying to talk me out of listing the bike. I have one grandchild, I want to see her grow up, I also have 3 other grown kids. I want to see those grandkids when they come and watch them grow up as well. :)

Kind of where I'm at (not a grandpa yet, to young still ;)) regarding the bike, I put roughly 56K miles on it, seen many things and shared some wonderful times with friends. My wife use to love the day rides or the occasional weekend trip when she could hit up grandma to watch the kids so she could come along. That changed when our closest riding friend got seriously injured, did for me some as well but I continued to ride till a little over a year ago when two real close calls ended it for me...

Ever heard of the IBA? Three of us rode from San Antonio to Tucson and back in 34-1/2 hours approximately 1750 miles if I remember right, was one of the toughest things I ever did...

It just hurt my hubby to ride any longer than 20/30 min at a time. Three yrs ago in Feb he fell at work & broke his neck in 2 places, was in a collar for 4 months. Every specialist he has been seen by say he is lucky he can still walk. Even riding the lawn tractor will make him hurt for days. And it doesnt help any that every week in the local paper there is a report of another motorcycle versus car accident.
Hard part for him, he has always had some sort of bike, his very first was a little Honda 50 when he was 5yrs old.
So, he sold the Harley and his race car. We just gettin too old for the quick healing, and the indestructible attitude we once had.

We actually joke about it now, its a long story. His other complaint about the incident, he is not a tall guy, 5' 8" (his twin is 1in taller & reminds him always!!) but the doctor said he actually lost about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch in height due to the 2 different spots he broke. So naturally, that is the worst news EVER to him!
