The 2013 Monitoring the Future survey found record low rates for daily, past-30-day, and lifetime cigarette smoking among 8th, 10th, and 12th graders, refuting CDC’s lie that e-cigs are gateways to cigarettes.

MTF finds that, since 1996, daily cigarette smoking rates have declined by 83% among 8th graders (from 10.4% to 1.8%), by 76% among 10th graders (from 18.3% to 4.4%), and by 62% among 12th graders (from 22.2% to 8.5%).

Please note that many/most 12th graders are 18, and can legally be sold cigarettes.

They are incredibly impressive numbers if at all accurate. I see so many young people smoking (20 somethings) that I find it hard to believe that the numbers have been reduced that low through 12th grade. There might actually be hope to denormalize cigarette use based on these numbers, especially if those 20 somethings move away from smoking to vaping which I'm also seeing a lot of.
