It's why I've stopped asking is I can vape in public places. I sort of feel like I SHOULD ask, but people don't know what it is. If I try to describe it (a replacement for smoking) they often say "no way."

But if I've been vaping for a while without bothering anyone when they notice, then it's easier for them to see how it doesn't bother anyone.

If asked, I will STOP vaping in a public place. (If asked by the owner or manager, that is.) But I don't ask anymore.

Best,
Ande

I always ask the bartender at the pub before I vape... Have only found one place that doesn't let me in the nearest two towns :)

Directions for stealth vaping on airplane:

Equipment required:
A. Book
B. E-cigarette that resembles a pen. e.g. black Joye 510, colorful eGo or Riva with round tip, etc.
C. Spouse or friend sitting in one of the seats next to you.

Directions:
1. Position overhead air control so that air is blowing approximately 1 foot in front of face.
2. Open book and read (or pretend to read).
3. Wait until passenger in the third seat falls asleep.
4. Casually bring "pen" up to mouth, as if to chew on the end.
5. Position book to cover any vapor that escapes from mouth while inhaling/exhaling.
6. Inhale vapor, while using hand to cover LED.
7. Hold vapor for count of 30.
8. Exhale vapor down front of shirt.

NOTES:
a) Variations on this method work in other places such as restaurants or stores.
b) PG based liquid produces less volume of vapor than VG based liquid.
c) Best to use a flavor that doesn't produce a strong, noticible scent

I have been on a plane 6 times in the last month and a half. I vaped on all of my flights.

I kept my PV (eGo battery with LR306 atomizer) on my lap. When I lifted it to my mouth, I didn't hide it. I did, however, take shorter than usual puffs and held the vapor in for longer than usual. The result was no visible vapor upon exhale. (I also put my thumb over the drip tip when I finished my inhale to ensure no vapor escaped from the mouthpiece when I was done.)

No one said a word to me.

Why would they? Even if they saw me inhale, what would they see on my exhale? Nothing since I was holding in the vapor until it dissipated.

I am not hiding the fact that I'm vaping . . . I'm just choosing to do it in a manner that won't cause anyone around me any anxiety. I do it all the time in non-smoking areas. I have yet to have anyone express any concern or ask me to stop, although I have had a few people ask me what in the heck I'm doing. :)

Having said that, on none of my flights was a specific prohibition of e-cigarettes mentioned . . . it was just "no smoking." I may be less brave if specific instructions are given by the flight attendant that use of e-cigarettes is prohibited. :glare:

Someone needs to open a snus outlet just outside this campus. Seriously, this is rediculous. They should have maybe only one or two designated smoking areas, but an outright ban is rediculous when you have an institute which only (well, mostly) deals with adults who are doing nothing illegal by smoking.

That aside, the public needs more education on p.v.'s and snus which harm no one, for the most part even the user. Even for an uber-liberal socialist like myself, this makes absolutely no sense!

If this were the 1960's, the students would be holding a smoke-in outside the University President's house. And then, they would march downtown singing freedom songs.

I kind of miss those years. They were much more hopeful than we are today.

Kids now still do that, they just take to blogs, you tube, facebook, etc with their public outcry. Unfortunately, it's only other students that they tell about it see it, unless it's really eye popping.

Or dancing... Thomas Jefferson Memorial. The crime? Silently dancing, in celebration of the first amendment's champion; a clear violation of their right to free-expression. In an excessive use of force, video was captured of dancers choke slammed and placed in a choke hold for non-crime.

Saw that video on a gun rights forum, actually, about a month ago. Absolutely sick. There's been at least one protest where everyone went down and was dancing, never heard the outcome of that.
