Most of my mixes are single flavor. I am fussy with flavors.

I mix my single flavored mixes together, sometimes by drops right into the atty. When I do find something appealing, I will extrapolate to concentrates but prefer single flavored mixes at the moment. I do prefer FA concentrates because they are more economical, also looking for a good tobacco flavor for mixing with. I just ordered VZ's B&M, and mild seven. Hangsen's, highway.

tobacco flavors I have tried, some premixed; Cam blend, purecig, max, cowland, Virginia, DesertShip, Dark Vapure, Shade There may be a couple I don't have anymore?

My question is, Do most of you come up with your own mixes this way, or do you start right off from concentrates?

Shade is my ADV switched with Oba-Oba, Although vanilla tahiti, caramel, and cream are good but need a tobacco to go with. Shade is not strong enough to mix with. Sometimes I can tolerate virginia.

So I guess this is a 2 part question; concentrates or mixes for recipe trials, and tobacco recommendations.
thanks.

We also do a bit of 'taste testing' by mixing premixed flavors into our tanks...but due to what happens when steeping, the end result is not always the same.

As in, one can put X amount of premixed peach in a tank, with X amount of premixed caramel - shake n' vape.

But if you put the same amount of the same peach & caramel flavorings in a bottle with your pg/vg/nic, mix them and let them steep...?...not necessarily the same as what you tasted the first time!

I mix by ml as well. What I am saying is when I am playing around, I will "sometimes" drip different flavors directly into my atty to get an Idea of flavor combinations. So far I have not mixed anything other than single flavors from concentrate.

I understand what you’re saying. I sometimes mix premixed flavors or previously made mixes just to see what they taste like knowing I may never exactly duplicate them. When I do that with mixes that I previously made I know what's in them and know the amounts used and the taste of the individual parts. So if I wanted to duplicate this it will take some trial and error but as I know what's already in them I have a starting point. You said that you’re mixing individual flavors right now and that's a very good thing because you will know what the individual flavors taste like and the amounts used to get you to that taste. When your ready for combining you will now be able gauge the amounts to use and visualize the taste of the finished product.

I think it depends on how much you have to add the to bottle whether using drops or a pipette/1 ml syringe. With super concentrated flavors like the ones VZ has, I do use drops straight out of the bottle because I use it at 2.5% or less and adjust the drops to 40 drops per ml in ejuicemeup. With other flavors like Loranns, TFA, FW and FA, I use a 1 ml oral syringe I get free from pharmacies (say its for a baby/puppy). Whatever works for you is all that matters.

I have done hours of searching so please understand if these questions have been asked before. There is a lot of info and opinions to wade through. So here is another question; lets say for a fictitious "single" flavor calls for 10% of X, another juice 10% of Y, and a couple at 4%-2%.
However when used in a recipe my understanding is not to go over 20% total correct? So where would be a "good starting point" for the 10% flavors vs higher concentrates? Is it just a wild Axx Guess? or are there any rule of thumbs? I know it depends on the notes you want to come through more than others as well. I am talking about building your own recipes.

That’s really a conundrum and a very hard question to answer. I’ve often battled with this question myself. As you mentioned the common recommendation is not to go above 20% but many people do. It really boils down to how well you know your flavors and what you are trying to accomplish and most of all common sense.

What I will do is examine each flavor and ask myself

“Is 10% of this really needed?”

“Why is the combined percentage of flavor adding up to so much?”

“What is the actual minimum recommended percentage of each flavor?”

So if the recipe calls for 10% + 10% + 5% + 5% then I already know that 30% flavor is way to much.

So in this case I would use half the amount and still stick within the amount ratio of each individual flavor basically cutting it in half.

5% + 5% + 2.5% + 2.5% =15% total flavor.

It’s really just knowing your flavors and using common sense. Starting with the minimums and making adjustments.

@dannyv45; Thank you , that puts it in perspective. I guess if I start looking over some recipes it may help me as well. I got my Black cigar and mild seven from VZ in the mail last night and mixed up a 30ml batch of each. They are both pretty similar. However I really like the black cigar/B&M. They need more time to steep than overnight, and to mellow out that alcohol taste. mixed @2.5%
Anyways thanks for the clarification and help.
