So I started out making 1 flavor liquids and that has gone well. I now want to move up to the next step of blending multiple flavors. I will start out using recipes - there are so many interesting ones - not tinkering with the % of single flavors except perhaps in simple 2 flavor lemonades and cheesecakes and such.

So my questions is, for 3+ flavor recipes and making a small ml test batch, does it make sense to mix a small amount of the flavorings separately in the recipe proportions and then add that mix bit by bit to the nic/pg/vg base until the desired concentration is found?
The calculators and recipes I have found here have been very helpful.

I do like my flavors on the strong side and use a dripper to test flavors.
What approach do you use to determine flavor concentration?

Thanks for the help. So much to learn and so much help here.

I mix everything at once and then adjust the flavors as needed. If I'm making someones recipe, I look it over and will change it if it looks like an ingredient is way too high or low to me. Everyone's tastes are different. That being said if it looks reasonable I'll try it but usually end up adjusting recipes to my specific tastes. Hope that helps! :toast:

You COULD mix the flavors in whatever your nic isn't based with (if your nic is vg based, you could make a small 100%pg batch to test the flavor percentages) and then tweak the flavors to your liking and add in the nic, although I've never done this. I generally just make a very small test batch, usually 5ml with nic and everything added in and try it. If one of the flavors needs bumping up or down I adjust that in the next small test batch that I make. I'm not saying this is the right way to do it but it's just how I do it.

Some flavors I test individually to see what the best percentage is for me, like you, I enjoy my flavors a bit on the strong side. Here's a link for testing flavor percentages, I use the method on the second post of the thread and it works pretty well for me. Thanks for the replies. I thought I had read through all the Master Techniques but somehow missed that one. I will keep on reading.

Steve, I am particularly interested in trying that Dragons Blood recipe AFTER I have done a several 2/3/4 flavor mixes. That has 5 or 6 flavors (can't exactly recall - I have it stored elsewhere). That type of recipe is where I thought mixing the flavors in the percentages and then adding the flavor mix to the base bit by bit until it is at the concentration I like would make particular sense. After 3 flavors I don't think my taste buds would be able to discern more/less of an individual flavor. But who knows - I'm not there yet.

Here you go, that way in will be in your thread to make it easier to find :)

Dragon's Blood 65PG 35VG
Dragonfruit 10%
Strawberry Ripe 3%
Bavarian Cream 2%
Sweet Cream 2%
Vanilla Swirl 2%
Sweetener 1%
Lemon Juice 3 drops/10ml

Cheers,
Steve

Edit Make it how it is or change it to your liking. That's the beauty of DIY, you can tailor things to your particular taste :toast:
