I wonder if you could have blown a fuse. First thing I would try. I am not an electronics wizard but I would open up the back and take out the batteries..wait a few seconds and put them back in. Possibly it may reset it. I am just thinking how modems, and computers work that it may just need a reboot(while your in there see if the fuse may have blown) You could also try new batteries too..if you just bought it could have been sitting around and they may have discharged.

Looks like a pretty simple meter. If you turn it to the off position, does the display blank? (when turning it on, it should show all zeros not matter which function).

If you turn it to the ohms section and touch the leads together, does it go to 1 (or very close)? Change to DC volts and if you touch leads to any battery (black/common to (-) and red to positive (+)), does the display change at all?

I looked at the PDF manual (http://www.equus.com/Content/Support/Manual/3310.pdf) for this unit and there is a fuse under a panel on the back held with two screws. I doubt it's blown though as the meter probably would not work at all.

Last question, How old is it? You could try replacing the batteries (two AAA) if it's over a year or so old. I've found that devices that have batteries supplied don't last long at all.

Make sure you have the meter in the correct mode before connection to any power source. Never try to measure resistance with power on the device. If your in the current mode and try measuring directly across a battery it will either blow the fuse or fry the electronics. If your trying to measure current through a coil you need to move the positive lead to the 10A position and set the meter to the DC 10A mode.
