Hello All,

I just wanted to get some feedback from you guys regarding Kanthal ribbon. I've been switching back and forth between 28 guage kanthal ribbon and .8 or .5 kanthal ribbon. I've noticed that the flavor is really muted with the ribbon. Anyone else have the same or opposite experience? This is while using in an ERA or IGO-L.

Could be the increased surface area of ribbon though I'm not really sure if that should mute the flavor or in fact encourage more flavor? Never used ribbon in my drippers but it seems to be the same case with my gennies. However with an increase in power the problem seems to be resolved.

There is another thread discussing the IGO-L with 33ga vs 30 ga and the user reported much better flavor with thicker wire (30ga). So I guess thicker wire or greater surface area should actually mean better flavor? Have you tried playing with your wattage?

I have not conducted any type of scientific study or research. All I can give you is opinion (humble) of my own experience and taste - I have found ribbon kanthal has improved taste and vapor production of my e-juice. I also have noticed that the large (0.8mm +) ribbon is slightly better than the thinner ribbon wires.

Thanks for all the feedback all.

I am primarily using mechs these days so I cannot increase/decrease voltage so to speak. I only can play with the output by changing the number of wraps of my coil to change resistance as many of you already know.

I am wrapping a 2/3 on the all 3 types of wire which gives me a resistance of .7-.9 depending on the wire.

Again no scientific testing but I wrapped my wife a 1.5 ohm coil for her Vamo using a .3 ribbon. She stacked some 18350's so she could get it up to the 11-13 watt range and she also did comment that the flavor was muted compared to the 32 guage which I normally use for her atties.

I am sure there's a lot more to it than just the type of wire that I am using but it is good to know that there are those of you that are getting good flavor out of the ribbon.

What type of ribbon wire are you using? A1, A or D etc. Also - I take you are giving you wire a couple of burns before coiling?

I believe it is D. I did not know ribbon was available in A1 or A. Yes I am burning with either a little butane torch or lighter, whichever is within reach.
