Yeah, I'm a brave cookie.
I currently have a Linux exclusive installation on my laptop... and I bought an Evic!
Note that it's not a big deal to dual boot... I just don't really like wasting HDD space on Windows if I don't *absolutely* need it. Usually, the combination of Wine and Virtualbox suits my needs perfectly. Until now...
Virtualbox doesn't even recognize any USB devices are plugged in when I connect my Evic. It charges, but that's it. I haven't dug in to the system logs yet. So far I've *just* tried installing the MVR software in Win XP on Virtualbox, as well as installing the MVR software via Wine, and neither of them detect the device.
I'm unsure on where to head at this moment. Should I be troubleshooting the Linux OS's ability to recognize the device? Virtualbox's ability to recognize it? Or WinXP specifically? I'm not really sure if Virtualbox recognizes USB devices on its own, or if it's dependent on Linux's drivers do detect them.
Would VMWare make any kind of difference?
I've tried researching this issue, both from the Linux perspective and the Virtualbox one. There's not really any info out there on whether or not anyone has failed or succeeded in making the MVR software work with the Evic on Linux. Theoretical discussions... some mention of someone somewhere working on an MVR version for Linux... but the threads get abandoned before any kind of conclusions are reached.
Using Ubuntu 13.04 with the 3.8.0-23 generic 64 bit kernel.
ANYTHING you know about this issue, please contribute... let's please reach some conclusions in the viability of running the MVR software in Linux in this thread!
