I'm old enough to remember life without a lot of things.....
no microwaves
no a/c or only window units
even lived a few weeks in the summers when I was a kid in a house with no indoor plumbing, and feather ticks for beds, pump at the sink, outhouse etc, and I'm only 49.

but ....... we also lived without being afraid to go anywhere after dark. lived without locking doors. The only time you locked your car door was at church in the summer and that was only to keep neighbors from filling it full or garden produce!! lol (old joke, but kinda true).
We lived without so much crime, and we lived without so much rudeness and disrespect for one another. And families actually gathered in the same room and talked to each other rather than texting or emailing from another room. :)

If someone in my house ever texted me from another room they would get a very loud, in person response!!! That being said, I have never lived anywhere I didn't have to lock the house/car door behind me. Even camping makes me nervous- grew up in a city and I like locks!

I used to IM my roommates all the time ... but then again we were usually listening to our own music choices via headphones ... so it was the best way to get their attention.

I really don't like locks, all they really do is keep an honest person honest. Most of the places I have lived, if someone wanted to break in and the door was locked you would come home to a broken door.

So I tend to lock the door when I am home alone and leave it unlocked the rest of the time.
