MXJO battery suddenly stops working

So I bought two MXJO 2500MaH 35 watt batteries. They have been working great and I'd recommend them to anyone. Recently I put one of them into my b cigar hb40 box mod. My mod won't even power on. I plugged into my nitecore dual charging smart charger. It reads that it's charging a NiMH/NiCd battery when it should be charging as Li-ion.
I tried it in my vanilla copper mechanical mod but still no luck.
I tried the other battery (exact same model) that I had and it works fine with both my mods, charges as li-ion. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue or is it done?

It's difficult to determine from your story, but my guess is that the battery is finished. It probably somehow hard shorted or you over-discharged it beyond recovery.

What Ohm coil were you using?

I seriously doubt that your MXJO battery is a true 35 amp battery. (There are no 18650 IMR batteries manufactured with more than 30 amps continuous discharge rate. I believe that I've heard that the MXJO is a re-wrapped LG-HE2 making it only a 20 amp continuous rated battery.

Some disreputable manufacturers and vendors advertise a "pulse" amp rating to inflate their battery specs. The pulse ratings are dubious at best, as every manufacturer makes up their own definition of what a pulse rating is. This makes it impossible to compare brands against each other.

The standard spec in the battery industry is the "continuous discharge rate".

Thanks for the information baditude. Learn something new every day here on ECF.
I actually fixed my problem. Apparently batteries like the ones we use in our personal vaporizers have a small chip in them. When its runs below a certain voltage the chip will stop the battery from recharging. I bypassed this by cutting an end off a USB cord i was no longer using, exposed the positive (red) wire and the negative (black) wire and stripped them, plugged the USB into the wall outlet, connected the appropriate connections for about 30 seconds, and viola! My battery started reading as Li-ion again! Did a trickle charge and I'm vaping on it right now.
Here is some light reading for those who are interested. How to Awaken Sleeping Li-ion - Battery University
Everyone needs to know about this so we can save some money and reduce or waste!

The nitecore dual charging smart charger is IMO not the best charger at handling an over discharged battery. What was the voltage of your battery when the Nitecore didn't charge it? How low can the voltage get for this method to work safely and what are the risks involved?

AFAIK once the voltage goes below 2.5V these batteries can sustain damage that makes them less safe to use. Time at that voltage is I think also a factor in how much damage has occurred. I've run a couple of batteries down to almost 2.5V and my now three year old Xtar charger brought them back to life again. I did charge the batteries right away and continued to use them after one of these instances with no issues. I would not have continued to use them after a few of these over discharge cycles though or if I had left one at such low voltage for a while.

Your solution for how to handle this situation is not something I would put out there to the vaping community as a solution to this issue. There is no way to know what people will actually end up doing to their batteries and that could be a really bad deal. The best way to handle this is to not discharge a battery that low.

:thumb: I have to agree with Ryedan on this matter. It's a very touchy situation to try to revive a battery that has been compromised by over-discharging it. Not all chargers are created equal in this category, and only a select few are capable of reviving an over-discharged battery safely, as they utilize a special charging mode automatically when they sense an over-discharged battery.

Statistically, most bad battery incidents occur while they are charging. This is the time when they are most vulnerable to a mishap.

I would have to categorize this procedure as Not Advisable.

After doing a bit of research on battery mishaps, I would agree with both of you. I feel bad for trying to put that information out because I realize now how potentially dangerous it can be.
I will say though it has been working well the past week or so. and I realize it's just a quick fix until I purchase new batteries. And to answer your question baditude, it was around 1.8v. And I'm going to look into the charger you own as well.
