I bought a Joye eGo-T set six months ago, and now one of the 1000 mAh batteries refuses to charge.

Has anyone attempted to replace the battery in these units, or is it just a waste of time ?

I would like to thank everyone here that shares their knowledge and information so freely with us newbies, it sure helps us find the best products and e-fluids, without making the usual newbie mistakes. :vapor:

Thanks for your responses,

Take it to a place that recycles batteries. That is the safest thing to do. Now since I made this mistake I will ask did you perhaps do the shut off thing and hit the button 5 times real quick. I did that.
If not it's not worth messing with. I did a post mortem on another battery and even if your very careful you'll not likely to be able to replace it. Upgrade to a tube that has replaceable batteries. Lots out there. I went with a provai. You don't have to spend that kind of money though.

Oh welcome to ECF Wildone.

I got to work in NJ in the 80's at Cooper Med center. I think it was near a campbell's soup factory. Could smell what they were cooking.
The part of the Hospital I worked in (data center) was a mess and it was supposedly haunted. I got to have my scraplle fix when I was there. That and taylor ham. UMMMMM. They need to make a flavor out of that. LOL

EGo batteries (like all rechargeable batteries) die a slow death. They hold a charge for shorter periods of time and charge to progressively lower voltage. If it had no previous symptoms and now will not charge, it might be (as stated above) that it is a connection. It could be a broken connection inside, but is usually the center post that has been pushed down and needs to be raised slightly, or the center connection on the charger.

If you can't get it working, it's not worth the bother to replace the battery. Get a new Twist. They are the best value for your money.

Thanks for you fast response bacc.vap,

I just thought that with all the modifiersrs and tinkerers here there may be a way to replace the battery. It's hard for me to through away a battery that doesn't even have a scratch on it :) cheap vaporer that I am :)

The battery is 6 months old, and has served me well. I do have 5 other batteries + two vv, as well as the eGo-T upgrade, so I'm not in trouble catching a vape, or anything :) Just hate to part with an old friend, so to speak.

Thank you,

WildOne

Hello, before you chuck it take a jewelers flat head and lift the center pin gently and then do the same with your charger. Yes they have a limited life span, but try this out just in case with the 6 month use, you havent just pushed the center pins down so they dont make contact. YOu might also clean all contacts with alchohol. This happens from time to time. Also if you use certain atties like the vivi nova that have longer center posts they are notorious for pushing the contacts up so that other items dont work.
Sorry if you already tried this or knew this, but you never know. Good Luck.
Now that you have the experience in mechanical batteries and equipment you might look into a mod that you can replace the batteries and not have to throw the battery enclosure out.

I have not actually replaced the battery in an Ego, but I have replaced the small circuit board in the switch. It is basically the same process since you have to remove the battery from the board to do it. The battery is not made like a normal battery and the only spots that had them on the web was China - with a minimum order of 1000! ! would consider a new Ego - Twist or similar.

I've seen other members successfully replacing the batteries on Ego's, but with the time/cost/labor/danger involved I would highly recommend you to just spend the ~$20 and get a EgoTwist. Better yet, invest more $$$ for a better built APV. Being able to replace the batteries yourself will definitely save you more $$$/time/frustration than the 'disposable' Ego's in the long run. :vapor:

Ego batteries have solder tabs on the actual cell that are held to the circuit and shell by tiny wires. If you're able to get the apart, the solder points on the board ar tiny, all the pieces of the shell are press-fit and the neg of the battery is soldered to the end cap. I'd say it could be done, but sourcing a replacement cell is your biggest hurdle. They don't sell the actual cells anywhere I've looked. I think you're waging a set-up for a headache and a less-than-cost-effective task. I'd say go ahead and rip the thing apart, so you can see what's inside if all else fails. Try adjusting the height of the center pin, as mentioned, tho!

Thank you all for all of your advice, knowledge and opinions !!!!!

As I always clean my batteries before charging, and I mean really clean the terminals deep inside, that is or was not the problem.

And I have two chargers, so it was not the chargers, I checked that with other batteries.

But now, after being in the charger for two days,,, This battery has taken a charge ???? At first it would not even reconsided by the chargers, they just remained "GREEN". Late last night, around 3:00 A.M., the light turned "RED" all by it's self, and charged until "GREEN" some time this morning ?????

Now I suspect that this may be this batteries last e-cigarette ??? I sincerely thank you all for your responses ! ECF truly is is truely a GREAT and Educational Forum, I have learned volumes of information here, and am still learning.

Thank you ALL !

Agree 150%, this is an amazing forum. Huge, well-managed, and an incredible source of information, with very little of the dis-information that pollutes much of the internet.

I have a lot of JoyeTech batteries of all sorts, and sometimes they're just a little finicky about whether or not to illuminate the red LED on the charger. It's never been much of a problem, but sometimes if you screw the battery in a little too tight, or there's just some kind of "disturbance in the Force", they just don't want to charge unless you fiddle for a few moments. Now, thanks to this thread, I can get more scientific about checking the center posts and seeing what's what. I do love science in general, and physics in particular, and love the fact that things of this nature ALWAYS follow the laws of nature, and that there is ALWAYS an explanation for a problem. Thanks to forums like this, those problems are getting easier and easier to solve.

I'm so old, I remember when there was no internet. So often, we take things for granted, so let's all be thankful that it exists, since it makes life SO much better for all of us.

(I'm also so old that I remember when there were no calculators, push-button phones, VCR's, or color TV's, but let's not go there) LOL

If all the possible tips and tricks fail...I'd get one of these!! In fact...I did get one, and I love it! Everything is replaceable...the switch/power head, the tube, and of course the batteries (18650).

Here's a pic of mine in it's case with 3 spare batteries.

Those are way cool, and I have one ... (hmm, did they change the button? ...... I love the one on mine ..... ) ... but it is not variable voltage. You can put an evolv "Kick" in it, for variable wattage (from the folks who brought us the VW "Darwin" - but I encourage you to blow another 23 "vapebucks" on a Joyetech eGo-C Twist battery to add to your arsenal. (Will you like it? You bet your arsenal! :) )

(You'll need a $14 charger too, if you don't already have any eGo-class batteries).

Thanks John! Yeah...I already have an eGo C Twist. And a kGo VV. And a Lavatube. But I don't use the variable voltage much. The eGo T Mod has a sort of modified "vv"...of sorts. You can use either regulated 3.4 volt or switch it to unregulated for a 4.2-3.7 voltage (on a fresh battery...it will diminish slowly as you use it). I rarely use the unregulated mode (or the VV models I have) because, for me, I've found it more effective with my juice to simply change my EMSCC to different ohms for what I need. Lighter vape earlier in the day? 2ohm on the 3.4 is great. Later in the evening during high stress and being tired...switch to 1.7ohm for a real kick. Works for me!

Nothing wrong with VV, it's just not that big a deal for me. I can use my 3ohm on the Twist or kGo VV...but never go over 4.2 anyway. So on the unregulated on the eGo T Mod...I get the same thing. (shrugs).

Oh yeah..they did change the button. It's flush with the cone now, and I really like it because it's sealed. And the toggle thing for the regulated/unregulated is done by clicking the button. It's the new version and it rocks! (Can be a bit harder to find the button in the dark, though! lol!!!)

I had the same problem John, only not one of my Joyetech batteries, rather one of my $12 copies. The charger light would not change color to indicate it was charging. The battery was dead and flashed over 20 times[ never had that happen before]. I have enough stuff to double check everything, so i knew it was the battery. Before i was going to trash it, i went down stairs to the workshop and gave it another shot on a diferent brand charger, and wouldn't you know, its charging. 3 days later its still good.

I have 2 vv batteries, 6 eGo batteries and a eGo-T Upgrade, Great batteries one and all !

I just hate to through away a bright shinnynney battery, that does not even have a scratch on it :( But if that's all there is, that's all there is.
But I do thank everyone for there help in this matter !
