I've found that if you use Isopropyl Alcohol (80% alcohol 20% water mix) and soak the atomizer for a day swirling it around in a cup. Then taking it out of the cup after a full 24 hours. Drying it off with a paper towel, blowing it out into the paper towel. Then setting it in front of a fan for 48 hours. This method really brings the atomizer back as well. And despite what I've read before Isopropyl alcohol completely evaporates over time. Nothing of it is left when it's exposed to oxygen over time.
Isopropyl alcohol cost about 2 dollars at walmart and you'll get a big liter of it. I've been doing this method for quite some time (4 months) with no adverse side effects.
Main thing to remember is make sure when you're about to dry the atomizer set it in front of a fan, open a window to air dry the atomizer, or place it in front of a vent like I do it works great. :]
Another side note Make sure you don't inhale the first couple of drags when you start priming it.
Wick it, soak the atomizer in your preferred poison real good.
Let the e-liquid sit in the atomizer for a while then slowly bring it in by taking a couple of puffs on it.
And I assure within less than 10 minutes it'll be tasting good again and shooting clouds of vapor.
If you're not sure, don't worry so much it's better to flood it than be meticulous with the amount you're dripping into the atomizer and get that dry metallic taste when bringing a atomizer back with this method.
Cheers. :)

Or you could just follow the method described in this thread, which takes about 5 minutes and works perfectly.

It seems to me that if anyone suggest using solvents to clean an atty it means that they never tried the method explained in this thread, cause with this method you end up with a beautiful white wick, no gunk, no caramelized stuff, nothing, just an atty that looks and works as good as new.

REALLY glad I found this thread! I was surprised when I read that stuff, too... I must have read over that part in the OP.

I wish I had a decent camera on hand and had taken some before/after pictures... This worked WONDERS on my HV 306 from Ikenvape w/ 6v. Gunky, black coils w/ brown/black wick.... couldnt even differentiate one coil from the next. Now, the wick is pure white and the coils are shiny, metallic, and beautiful! THANK YOU!

I wish either that I had a 306 atomizer, or that you did have your camera.
Because there are a lot of people who are never going to believe or understand without pictures.

I am not questioning the validity of the method, but since I have taken apart a few attys in order to rebuild them (just learning a survival skill in the event of a ban), I was wondering how you get nichrome (or Kantal) wire to shine after it has been heated to red hot by passing electricity through it.

Would love to see a photo!

I'll take some pictures next time... coils looked just about brand new after this method! It really does make sense, though... burn all of the funk off until it turns to ash... rinse the ash off... burn again to make sure all the funk is gone and produce more ash... rinse again... burn it dry... BAM, clean atty.

Wow that thread is long- I haven't been through it all, so this may have been said, but it may be worth having it here again:

Small batteries (all mine are 510 standards) often haven't got the "oomph" necessary to do this if an atty is really really gunked up.

I've just revived two terribly gone atties doing this with a USB passthrough, though... The guy who taught me to do this has a box mod (his own construction) with two 18650s in it. (And some sort of a rig that let him adjust voltage. Damn engineers...) That thing works a treat!

Best,
Ande

I just tried this method as well. I too only have regular 510 manual batteries and one mega batt.
I was able to get the orange glow using just those, it did however eat the battery alive lol I did alot of recharging but it was still very fast and works wonders on attys.
Try it, follow the directions carefully and you too will be back in vapor cloud heaven!
What a difference!

it costs about $15... but take your order over $20 and the shipping (priority) is free...
the Pyrex Drip Tip (tapered... is longer for less heat and back wash) will end your juice hang ups... for dripping and vaping.
from Theecig.com
I swear by em.
Any idea how to get liquid to stop popping into your mouth i mean seriously... Thats really f---ing annoying. Hang on let me get my q-tip out so i can swab the inner top part of my drip tip on my 510 for my CIGARETTE.

I have to say, this is one of the most important posts I have read on this forum! I had thought about e-cigs for a long time, then decided to research and see which one to get. I did and didn't start out cheap, I got a riva 510 and some juice, and have been off analogs since:D. A week later, I ordered diy juice stuff, another e-go type (knockoff) kit, and some spare attys. I have since lent out my first kit to those interested in switching, along with a short note on what I have learned. I started with cleaning my attys every night with the rubbing alcohol method. That worked fine for my first kit that came with 2 ohm attys. Since I am using my newer kit, the attys are 3 ohm, and when I tried my normal cleaning method, man, even after drying overnight, the taste was horrible8-o, and the attys performance was greatly diminished. I thought I had killed my first atty, but got to searching on here and found your method (after testing with volt-ohm meter that it was still good), and it is vaping great! Thank you so much! After dropping so much cash, I just couldn't justify spending more money at present. Plus, I am the go to person for all the people I know who smoke and want to try the e-cig, including my husband! It's kind of a lot to bear at present, when I really don't know squat about it. I know I'm not filling the carts right, put a few drips, vape, more drips, vape. I also checked out your cart mod, and am trying it (but using the poly fil I had bought to refill the carts with, more diy, I know) and I don't quite have the density right yet, so first fill is leaking. I will try it again, I have enough filler to last me 100 years at present, so no harm there and plenty of fixings to make more juice.

Where can I get a cheap (but good) pass through or whatever it is that you use? I don't want to connect it to my computer, but may eventually, still learning here, so I may come to love a pass through.

Again, thank you so much! Everyone who switches and uses the 3 piece e-smokes will get a link to your pages, along with a printout so they can have a smooth sailing vaping experience! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!:toast:

There are many inexpensive pass throughs from aprox. $15.... sorry i cant recommend one in particular, but you can also try an "eGo passthrough battery", which uses a computer port, for less than $30... they are my favorite alternate and back up to my more expensive pv's.

You can see that you should look for atty resistance to match the power (voltage) of your device... with what you are using, the eGo clones, true voltage is about 3.2v (although it is called a "3.7" device). Atty resistance for these are best at anywhere from the LR (low resistance) 1.5, to 1.8, to 2.0. If you get "regular" replacement attys, make sure they are not higher than 2.5 Ohm.

You may prefer the "regular" as the LR's are a hotter vape, but produce more vapor.
