I've just taken apart one of my rebuilt clearomizers. It seemed it was getting to the point of not producing well.

The wick material was, I believe the filler matrerial from an XL cartomizer. To the best of my memory it was the filler pulled out of a cartomizer in which the coil had gone south and then tossed in the spare parts box. As I recall, it tasted a lot better on this wick than the silica I routinely use. Replacing this wick with silica just now verified my experience.

I don't know precisely the material is or the ramifications of using it, but I do belive it perfromed much better than others. It really didn't burn much, more it was just a bit clogged with a grit from the coil, heat and juice.

In the picture notice the perorated pattern in the sheet. Also, the sheet seems to be multi-layered.

Does someone know what this material is and where it might be available?

That looks like the blanket that wraps around the vertical coil in the carto, then the polyfill surrounds that and actually holds the juice. The blanket wicks the juice from the polyfil to the coil and keeps the coil from burning the polyfill. I'd guess it's a cheesecloth type material but someone else will know.

Silica def is not a good wick for flavor or anything else. If you can't get more of that material without robbing more cartos, you should just try cotton. Cotton is far superior to silica in wicking and flavor.

Types of cotton commonly used with success:

CVS Sterilized Rolled Cotton (reportedly no boiling required).
Organic cotton balls from Walgreens or Whole Foods (some ppl boil, some don't)
Peaches & Cream 100% cotton Ecru yarn from Walmart (boil 20 min, rinse and let dry)

Some people like P&C yarn because it is already in a wick-type configuration so it's easy to get consistent size wicks from it by unraveling the strands of yarn and using one or two or whatever your juice calls for.

Whichever cotton you use it will have a cotton taste for the first few vapes then the cotton taste goes away and it's pure flavor. Many types of cotton taste like a laundry basket, however, and the BAD cotton taste in those cases does not go away, so I'd stick with one of the above tried and true cottons. JMO. Good luck.

PS Cheesecloth is also used, but have no idea if it should be boiled first.

Thanks for the post, Trayce.

I've done some cotton experimentation. As you mentioned about, the blanket 'keeps the coil from burning the polyfill.' I notice it didn't really burn in my use if it as a wick.

Well if you have old cartos you can always pull the polyfill out with tweezers and the material you are looking for will be inside, or stuck to the vertical coil. But I imagine you either don't have more cartos to rob or wanted to buy it separate. I'm surprised no one has answered you as I'm sure someone here knows what it is. You might try your post in the "Ask The Veterans" section of EFC, or in the "Where Can I Find..." section. Good luck.
