I have been rebuilding my clearo's (hydra clearomizer) for about a month now. It can be a pain to wrap wire around the silica wick even using a paper clip. So, I had a small piece of 400 ss mesh left over from wicking my richman rba. decided to wrap the ss mesh around my silica wick and then wrap the coil.
Worked great. I made 5 wraps that came out nice and even. put it on my tesla and fired it. had 1 hot spot. with minor tweaking its firing great. im getting 1.7 ohms. the clearo is vaping better (nice big cloud) than with just the silica. more of an airy draw.
I am getting a slight odd taste , But this was a test and I did not oxidize the wick much. So will pulse the wick and see if it goes away.
This was my test build to see how much easier it would be to make a coil with this combo wick.

I know I could do it with just mesh, but I had the small piece of mesh and didnt think it would be enough to wick right.
this piece of mesh is roughly 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" long.

More or less just playing around with what I have laying around. the silica wicks i have right now are all out of the Blu carts I have laying around. had about 25 carts from when I started e-cigs. so have been using the wicks, wire, and any other parts I can find use for lol
I am a big fan of McGuyver :D

took it apart, oxidized the wick more, put it back together. pulsed it and tried it again. no more odd tastes and working great.
will probably build all my clearo's this way because it was much easier to wrap the coil (and adjust).
only because I want to use silica or cotton in my clearo's and ss mesh in my rba's.
