PG = bad for cats, okay for dogs. Cats can't metabolize the PG and it builds up over time until it reaches toxic levels. This is the explanation I've heard - use VG around cats.

"The dose makes the poison."

Many vapers have been frightened off of vaping (or vaping a pg mix) around their cats by "zero tolerance" thinking -- which leads to such absurd conclusions as "avoid ALL sunshine (since it's a carcinogen)" and "avoid ALL water consumption (since it is quite possible to drown oneself by drinking too much water.)"

Unless you vape 100%pg in a tiny enclosed space with your cat for several years, blowing directly into kitty's face, there is simply no way the levels of pg exhaled through vaping can harm her/him. It is true that cats must not eat large quantities of pg; but there you should be more concerned about the level of pg in your body lotion (if kitty likes to lick you) than the pg ratio in your ejuice.

Your cat is probably reacting negatively to the different "feel" (wet vapor) of your PV vis-a-vis cig smoke, or perhaps it's a particular flavor ingredient which smells noxious to him.

Thanks y'all. I mean, I have a crap load of pg/vg juice. I think 70/30. If VG is the safer option for my pet, then that is what I will use from now on. I am getting used to not such a harsh throat hit after not smoking for 2 months.

Elenor, about the lotion thing. Is there a type of lotion that does not contain PG? I would like to know for sure.

Hmm. Nice topic. I didn't know PG was bad for cats. I have 4. I will be more careful with my vapor and juice now. A quick google shows that ingestion of PG causes Heinz Bodies to form in a cat's red blood cells eventually causing potentially fatal anemia. Problems grow exponentially at higher doses. Not sure how this goes with vapor, but I did notice my cats looking at the clouds with cautious curiosity.

Radar, I am not aware off the top of my head of any hand or body lotion that is PG-free; PG is in practically everything we use cosmetically! (Toothpaste, lotions, shampoo, etc.) The only advice I can give you is to scrutinize ingredient labels carefully for any mention of "proylene glycol."

As for 100% VG being a "safer option" for your kitty: I really really don't think either ingredient has been established as "safer," or even "harmful," under normal vaping conditions. The choice, of course, is entirely yours to make. (As long as you can find a sweet spot with 100%VG juices -- would hate for you to go back to cigs!)

My cat hates the vape too and I mainly use PG free juices. First puff, no more cat in the lap. I wonder with my cat if it might be the sound of the PV. It could also be the smell. Maybe my cat isn't used to a smoke like substance in the air. I haven't smoked in the house since she was a kitten years and years ago. Curious indeed. Happy vaping.

My cats are hairless, So I don't know if their could be extra sensitivity there. But now I am concerned because I have to bathe them and I am quite sure their bath stuff (baby shampoo) has PG in it. Gosh, I quit smoking and find out I have other problems to deal with. Which reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.....

--->I'm not sure how many problems I have, because math is one of them.

OH MY GOODNESS YES, if they're those adorable Sphinx types that need bathing at least once a week, please get a "for CATS only" shampoo to use on them! (Either online, or at your vet, or at a PetSmart-type store.)

Soaking them in PG every week isn't as bad as feeding them the stuff, but you really should get a cat-only shampoo. :)
