(Admin: Wasn't sure which forum(s) to post this to so I chose this one. Please relocate/copy as you see fit).

I created an excel spreadsheet for building coils and figuring other things out. It lets you analyze ohms, gauage, wraps, and mandrel size. Basically helps answer questions like: "Which wire and how many wraps should I use on a particular device to get the ohms I want?".

I think the more experienced vapers who have been building for awhile already know what they can use on various devices. But since I was new to it just a few weeks ago, I developed the sheet as I went through the process and had questions and "what ifs".

Enjoy!

Awesome! Does the device you input really matter that much in regards to Ohms?

The device matters only in terms of the length of the legs. Yes, it can make quite a difference. The total length of the legs (the non-coil part) can alter the resistance by quite a bit. By using a table of devices (which is really a table of leg lengths) w/ the length of the legs on each device, it just makes it easy to enter that information.

You can determine what the leg length is or a particular device by working backwards with an existing coil you've built. On the 2nd part of the sheet (below the matrix), you can calculate any individual setup. Enter the gauge, the number of wraps, and the mandrel size you used. Leave legs at 0. Now compare the projected ohms to what you KNOW the ohms is. Just keep increasing the legs length value until the calculated ohms is equal or very close to the known ohms. That will give you a good idea of what the device's leg length is.

I was quite surprised at how accurate the sheet is once the leg length is right.
