Hey all,

I have a question and I really need some help to get the right gear for my Dad.

I recently lent my old 510, PCC and a couple 510 cartos to him so that he could try out the world of vaping, but it seems 510 Cartos are too harsh for him.

He says he'd like a warm vapor, but not something that has much of a throat hit like a Standard 510 Atty/ 510 cartos and even a green smoke was too much for him (when I had that junk over a year ago now)

So my question is, should I try him on a 901? or an 801? Or maybe even another model?

I haven't really tried them since I only use 510's, and the idea is to deliver the nic with next to no throat hit at all.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Maybe try some 100% VG juice before investing in new hardware. I'm not into TH either and I get very little from straight VG.

I had a Green Smoke too (it was just RMA'd :) ) and that thing was harsh as hell!

Thanks for the advice! I actually did try this method but he found the throat hit to be still too much. I think it's the hardware choking him out for sure now that he's had a little over a week with it. I tried all VG, PG/VG and just straight PG with him at varying nic levels

Also, (gently and carefully) try to get him involved in looking at stuff on the supplier website, making choices, ordering, and even the forums. I've found that if you do absolutely everything for someone, they are less likely to keep at it. I'm not sure why this is, maybe because they have no "skin in the game", or no real interest. I've been instrumental in the attempt to convert a half-dozen or so people, and the ones that did best were the ones I helped the least.

Thanks so much Switched! I didn't want to jump in and throw money into something he can't use.

I have a 901/KR8 adapter already so that makes it cheap! Awesome news!:D

Looks like I'm placing an order with Sean :thumb:
Another thing to keep in mind also (as you know) vaping is totally different than smoking, and will indeed appear harsher, in the beginning. Slower less longer hits will also assist. VG for all intense and purpose is a flavour and atomiser killer and, not necessarily a harshness reducer. Lower nic levels also decreases TH and harshness.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

My Dad isn't very computer savvy but I will try to convince him to come on the forums more.

The 510 kit was originally for him but he had the problem previously stated, so it's good that it can work for him again  instead of me using it all the time.

I placed my order with Sean for a 901 atty, some 901 carts for Dad and some low res 510's and one of those USB eGo batteries/PT for me :D

Thanks again!

Hey Noiz. Great advice from everyone here and thought I'd share my experience with getting my mom onto vaping. She is a smoker for 45 years and choked to death every time she tried my eGo (with 18mg nic juice). I called Jack at HV and he recommended she try using no nic (like Switched suggested with lower nic). I bought her his disposable 510 wannabe and gave her NO nic juice and then had her use it like a training bra for vaping. Had her fill her mouth with vape and inhale just slightly then exhale right away. She was dragging on that thing like she was sucking on a tailpipe and ended up coughing her head off. Now she is learning the difference between "smoking" and "vaping" and is getting the hang of it. She's almost ready to start on low nicotine but my point is.....for $16.99 she is well on her way to getting off cigarettes......a very small investment for huge returns. (she's already cut her smoking to half a pack as opposed to one pack). Just thought I'd share.

The 901 won't be a direct fit on the 510, adapter needed. Might also be listed as a 808D-1 to 510 adapter. The 808D-1 cartomizer has the same threads as the 901. Many sellers have it.
The standard 510 battery outputs about 3.2 volts when vaping. That's why the 808D-1 or 901 atty (about 3.2 ohms) gives a cool (and less vapor) than a 510 atty on the 510 battery.

No worries my friend! I have a 510 to 901 adapter here already :D I used to use it for my KR8 Cartos before 510 Cartos became as easily available in Canada.

Supposedly my package should be here today! Man, does Sean ever ship fast!

I appreciate the advice Lola! I'm glad I'm not the only canuck who is encouraging my parents to start vaping, it felt like an uphill battle there for a while.

I happen to have some DIY supplies to make some No Nic Marlyboro or Butter Rum for him if he finds it's still too harsh.

I'll have to do the vaping ABC's with him and try to get him on the forums more often ;)

Anyway, thank you for sharing :) It's great to hear she has made such great progress.
