Ok, I was going to take pics of everything but my camera decided to start flashing red on the charger (not good) So I cant. But I want to go over my cleaning and drying method of my cartos. My cleaning method is a method implemented and posted by someone else on this forum but I cant remember who. But the drying method is BY FAR the best drying method and I havent seen it posted anywhere so here it is together.

  • First I take my dirty cartos and remove the two mouth piece pieces (juice catchers) that are inside the carto.
  • I then boil some distilled water and throw the cartos in the boiling water.
  • Take the cartos out of the water and let them cool a bit
  • Take your syringe (I use 10ml syringe) and put the rubber piece from your carto on the syringe tip (without the needle of course)
  • Boil some fresh distilled water
  • attach a carto to the rubber piece that is now on the syringe
  • suck up the boiling water and then squirt it out into the sink
  • do this again as many times you feel necessary (I did it 3 times unless I noticed it still smelled like juice)
  • Then after you squirt out the last bit of water you want to suck the syringe in and out real fast to force excess water out.

Now, the drying method!! This dries them out completely in about one day 24-36 hours.

After you use the syringe cleaning method and remove the excess water with the syringe. Get a bag of rice, put some of the rice in a zip lock bag and put your cartos in and seal it up.

The next day or day thereafter your cartos will be COMPLETELY dry inside. It actually pulls up the filler a little bit and makes it fluffy! The are easier to fill after this too!

If anyone knows who or where the syringe cleaning method I used above is, please post it here so anyone not understanding what I am saying can see the pics.

I guess you could use some silica gel packs...like the ones that come with a computer box or a Tv.

P.S. Adding some rice to a container with bread keeps the bread fresh for 1 or 2 more days. So yes...well thought.

I have silica packs too. But I would not use those with my cartos. I know what rice is and what it contains. Silica is not supposed to be ingested or inhaled so I would not recommend silica gel. Rice is the better option and works very VERY well :D

Nice method. I can see how this works and more readily available compared to silica. BTW...Silica is sand, quartz to be exact. It's completely harmless so it could be used if you had available.

Cool, thanks for letting us know! I might use it then if I have nothing to worry about. But rice was closer and I knew more about rice. I might try some silica next time, but rice is probably cheaper. Not sure how much I paid for my silica tho.

This is also a good way to save a cell phone/ipod/etc etc.. dropped into water. If that ever happens to you REMOVE the battery WITHOUT trying to turn it on first. Dry outside of phone as much as possible with a towel and throw the phone/ipod in a bag of rice and let sit for 2 days AT LEAST since this is a phone and not a carto you want to be sure it got all the moisture out. I waited 3 days when this happened to me and my phone is still working fine.
I know its off subject but figured I would throw it out there.

Lung disease caused by silica? Sure. So does cotton dust, (byssinosis, https://health.google.com/health/ref/Byssinosis) or any dust (rice dust included).

Silica GEL, used in the dessicant packs j0ker mentions, does not easily break up into the small shards of dust necessary for inhalation, and is sold contained in a water-permeable, but not dust-permeable package. Used as intended, it is safe. You'll inhale more silica outside on a walk in the sun than you'll get from properly used silica gel.

WOW this is just what I was looking for. I have had wet carto's for a week.. Now I am off to get some rice. Thanks...Kinda like bread will keep brown sugar from getting hard... Now wondering if bread would do the same...... who cares I am sticking to rice.. Perfect.. thanks again..

lmao, can I watch? j/k:D

But seriously that is a great idea, rice is on my shopping list, and to think I could have saved a phone I dropped in water a couple of years ago

Ok we have a Watchers team going on here now.../LOL

But I do post this every time I get a chance.. always saying it was not my brilliant idea but it is indeed a perfect solution. I now use it all the time...Now if I could just find this post when I mention it.. I guess I cant have it all at the same time huh?

again.. the perfect answer for me...

YEAH

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet. Originally being from (very humid) Alabama, my grandmother always taught me to put some rice into the salt shaker with the salt. It keeps the salt from getting all clumpy, especially in the tiny holes of the cap where it is supposed to come out.

I know, not really vape-related, but with the discussion about bread and stuff, I was surprised no one had mentioned this.

I tried the washing method but when I put the ring on the syringe tip it would not fit in the cart. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? I used a balloon pump with grip from a pen, it worked great. I also use the rice and it rocks.

Thought I'd try the "rice method" (maybe it should be abbreviated RM?) today. Had a bunch of 510 and E9 cartos to clean and I mentioned to my wife about using rice to help dry everything up. She showed me the salt shaker with a couple of grains of rice in it. Explained how rice will absorb moisture very quickly. So we'll see how everything turns out tomorrow afternoon.

On a side note lilred, I used a 5ml syringe and a pen grip to flush clean hot water through the cartos after boiling. Worked like a champ!
