My first attempt. CNC + DNA 30 + dual 18650

Thought I'd share my build with everyone. Its in the starting stages now and you'll be able see how it goes together.

Started with some chunks of 6061 aluminum.



Pocketed the inside so I can fit two 18650 batteries and the Evolv dna 30/charger. The two halves were joined together and I machined away some material.





I purchased and was going to use the Shapeway screen/chip cradle but broke it as I was putting it together(they are very fragile and I'm not very easy on things). They also take up more room than I wanted so now I'm working on a smaller platform to hold everything I need in the case.
The case right now is 3.65x2x1.65in and I think I can make it smaller but its what the dual 18650 battery holders need in space inside. I may build my own battery holder as the DigiKey/Mouser holders are very cheap in quality.

Here is what I came up with as a prototype switch and chip holder. It will also hold the dna charger. I want to stay away from using any epoxy to hold the components to the case.







I have to re-machine the case because the screw holes are a little too close and I won't be able to get any rounding on the edges. As of right now I can work with the case and see how everything will go together and later machine the final box.

No doubt Would it be illegal to shape it like brass knuckles?

Machining done. This is what it looks like after a couple hours in the vibrator. Removed most of the tooling marks but needs more time.



Don't know if I should do a brushed finish or polish.

Cool! Vibratory polisher? What kind of abrasive media? Just curious.

This is the media I used. A few more hours(all day) should do the trick to clean up the tooling marks and a change to walnut shells to get a nice smooth surface. Then either brushed finish or to the buff wheel to get polished.

Case got polished. Not the best polishing but I wanted to get it done and it was a never ending seeing small scratches trying to get a mirror finish.







The heart gets installed.

I really like how it came out and how it feels(thought it was going to be too big). The Evolv DNA30 is an awesome chip and vapes great. It's not really pocket friendly but it's great to have on my desk or in the cup holder in the car. I planning on doing one with just a single 18650 for better mobility so stay tuned.

Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me and that is a 28+mm kayfun/russian, you should grab another fat daddy (or see if they sell them separate) and get the extra ring to make the 510 plate 22mm and give u nice flush-atty look.

Really a minor detail, but it will take a gorgeous mod and put the final cherry on top.
