Just an FYI/safety tip I read on the batt modder forum.

Li Ion batts vent (from the positive terminal) when they fail, even protected ones. Several posts talk about drilling vent holes in the body of the mod to help that process should it occur.

in this scenario, would the led at the top serve as a little air vent, even tho its filled with a LED.. it can't be air-tight, right ?

Another great item to use other than FOBs are pollen presses or the Aero Space airtight cylinder. I have several of these and it relieves the hassle of working in tight spots since both sides unscrew. A tad bit more costly(10-15 smackaroos for the press and 5-7 bucks for the Aero Space container which can both be found of ebay and various sites), but extremely versatile and large enough to either use one large battery or two small ones since they measure about 2.5-3 inches.

In case your wondering, pollen presses are usually found in the herb section of your local cigar emporium, in the other side of the store where everyone pretends to just be browsing for kicks.

Nice work on the mod!

Where do you get the PCB from when you build a mod like this? I still struggle with how to build them without one. Have no knowledge of electronics so, I can't even figure out how to put a switch in the bottom of a tube?? Anyone willing to offer some Electronics 101 for the modders who really want to learn more?

Most of us use PCB batteries(already built in), therefore eliminating the need to incorporate pcb's into our mods. If you desire to have one permanently incorporated into your mod, try sites similar to this or any battery depot sites.

It's my personal opinion that protected batteries aren't necessary, provided that you have a protected charger and a solidly built mod (no shorts or chance of shorts.) Since the chance of shorts are possible because the silicone O-ring in the connectors that seperate the neg and pos both in the atty and battery connector often times melt to cause the short. I suppose a Protection circuit board may be necessary to those who don't replace the silicone rings with epoxy putty or at the very least reinforce it.

Can I see the inside of one of these? Which pill bottles and batts are they?

I am using the UltaFire 16340 880ma battery. The pill bottles I got at a local pharmacy and have not found them online yet. The next one I build I will post pics on a step by step. All of the components are two part epoxied in so nothing moves and it is insulated. So I cant dissasemble with out major work.

I haven't even started to figure out how to make one of these things. How do you get a battery attachment to put in it(for the atomizer) to attach to it? Do you weld/ glue/ solder/ screw them into the cap or do they just slide into it? and can you change them out, on the same one, so different styles(510, 401, 801) work? Maybe I could buy the parts and someone could make it for me. I want one.

What I did was take an old 901 battery and dissemble it and used a drill bit that fit perfectly in the "barrel" of the battery. I then drilled out the top and pressed the connector in (tight fit). Currently I only use the 901, but it can be modded for the RCA jack to make it universal. The next thing is to wire in the switch and LED, then I used an old circuit board to solder the spring on to and connected it with a wire to the switch. The last thing is epoxying the top, and pacing a small flat spring in the bottom of the container, as the 16340's have shrink wrap around the bottom and can not make contact with the shell.

I will work on a step by step with pictures.
